Teach your kids some simple ways to fit exercise into a busy day. For example: Walk them to school each morning. Make weekend chores active and fun. 2 Be the Boss of Your Asthma Win with Checkups Take your children to all of their wellcare checkups or shots visits, and you could win a $50 gift card. After each checkup, enter the weekly drawing for the gift card by calling CalViva Health News If you have asthma, you will always have it. But you can take charge of it. You need these 3 things: 1 An action plan. You can help your doctor write out a plan made just for you (or for your child). This plan lists your asthma medicines. It tells you when to use them. It also tells you what to do if your asthma feels worse. 2 A medicine for daily control. Asthma gets worse when your airways become swollen. Using a control medicine every day can help prevent that. Most people breathe in this medicine through an inhaler. 3 A rescue inhaler. This is different from your daily control medicine. You only use a rescue inhaler when your asthma feels worse. Rescue medicine opens up your airways fast. If you need to use your rescue inhaler more than 2 days a week, call your doctor. You might need to change your action plan. 3 Manage Diabetes for Better Health English Diabetes is a disease where sugar in your blood is too high. When you have too much sugar in your blood, it can cause many health problems. The good news is that managing your diabetes can help you stay healthy. To help control your diabetes, here are some steps you can take: Every day. Eat well. Your doctor can help you create a meal plan to follow. Exercise on most days of the week. Try 10-minute walks 3 times a day. Take your medicine as your doctor told you even when you feel good. At least twice a year. See your doctor to check your blood pressure, feet and weight. Twice a year. Have an A1C test. This blood test measures your average blood sugar level over time. Ask your doctor what your goal number should be. Are You Pregnant? CalViva Health can send you information to help you have a healthy baby. Call and ask for a pregnancy packet. Once a year. See your doctor and have a: Blood test to check your cholesterol and other things. Complete foot exam. Urine test. Flu shot. Once a year you also need to: See a dentist for a dental exam. See an eye specialist for a dilated eye exam. The specialist will use drops to make your pupils bigger to see if your eyes are healthy. These tests and exams are important and make sure that your diabetes is not causing other health problems in your body, your teeth or your eyes.
