2 Dear Camden Community, As a new parent, I understand more than ever how much a parent can positively impact a child s life. Parents play a critical role in their child s development, from early childhood education all the way through college. That s why the School District is making it easier than ever for parents to become more involved. From a community school coordinator in every school to the new Camden Parent Partnership, the School District is acting on its responsibility to reach out to parents and provide multiple opportunities for them to take an active role in their child s education. I hope the calendar is a valuable resource for you as you follow your child s educational progress. But this calendar is just one of the ways we are keeping in touch. 3 PROMISE 1: Safe Students, Safe Schools. Your child will feel safe in school. The Camden Commitment Promises The Camden Commitment, the District s strategic plan, was released in January 2014 based on feedback from the Superintendent s 100 Day Listening Tour. Goal: We will ensure that social-emotional services are provided to support the well-being of students. We will complete an audit of special education services by By June 2015, we will open a residential school for our most at-risk youth and create a new, rigorous career and technical education options for our high school students. We will successfully expand professional development measures through high-quality training and support. By 2016, we will create a new pipeline for teachers. CamdenPLUS will train five new principals of city schools in three years. As a result of these and other changes, we will double the number of students attending high-performing schools increasing the high school graduation rate by 20 percentage points and our High School Proficiency Assessments passing rate by 10 percentage points by January 2019.

Every school will have a functioning parent desk by spring By June 2015, the percentage of parents who report being satisfied with their child s education will increase by 25 points. We will streamline and transform our Central Office in a customer service and school support organization, develop staffing formulas that make sure all schools have fair resources, and implement modern financial practices to find efficiencies and redirect savings to schools PROMESA N. 5: Eficacia Oficina Central. 5 General Information Emergency Closings When it becomes necessary to close school, the Superintendent s Office will notify all schools. This information will be posted on the District s Facebook and Twitter pages, and relayed to local radio and TV stations. The time for closing shall be 1:00 P.M. for all schools, unless otherwise notified. School Visitors All visitors to school buildings shall report immediately to the main office upon arrival. No person or persons shall be permitted to visit teachers or classrooms without the principal s permission. Community Use of School Facilities As a service to the community, the District shall allow the use of school facilities to responsible and properly organized community groups once they apply and are approved for a permit. Regular school activities and school-related organizations shall be given preference in the use of facilities. Affirmative Action Office The Camden City School District has an Affirmative Action Program and a full-time Affirmative Action Officer. The program is designed to monitor compliance with existing laws regarding fair employment and classroom practices. The office is located at 201 N. District Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Policy The Camden City School District strictly prohibits the harassment, bullying, or intimidation (HIB) of any student. Students should report any incident of bullying, harassment, or intimidation to the school principal and fill out a Bullying Complaint Form. This form is available in the school s main office and on the district s website at Employees and/or volunteers are required to report any allegation of bullying within 24 hours of the alleged incident. 24 Family And Community Engagement Need help solving a problem about your child s education? Follow this simple guide. Necesita ayuda para resolver un problema de Educación de su hijo? School-Based Options Step 1: Meet with the CSC at your child s school If you need help, your first step is always to check-in with the Community School Coordinator (CSC) at the Parent Help Desk in your child s school. When you meet with your CSC, he/she will: 1. Help you determine how your problem can be best solved: in the community, at the school, or at the Central Office. 2. Consult their resource guide to refer you to a community organization that can help you with a family issue. 3. Connect you to the school staff member that can best help you (i.e., teacher, guidance counselor, social worker). Step 2: Meet with staff at your child s school Meet with a teacher, social worker, or guidance counselor at your child s school. If your CSC cannot help provide the resource or answer that you need, the best place for help is your child s school. The school knows your child best, and will be able to provide you quick help with solving your problem. Step 3: Meet with relevant school administrator Make an appointment through the CSC to meet with your school s lead educator, vice principal, or principal. If you are not happy with the solution from the meeting with the staff member because: 1. you were unable to find a solution or plan that you agreed with OR, 2. because the solution or plan that you agreed to does not seem to be working.
