In addition, parents can volunteer in the school and assist on field trips. The Nell-Soto Parent Involvement Grant supports home visits and monthly community meetings/workshops for parents. These parent workshops are offered on topics such as, Homework Help/Standards, Family Literacy, Nutrition, Family Science, and Enrollment Information. We encourage our families to attend district Commuinty Based English Tutoring classes. We offer a beginning reading/writing class to our preliterate parents. School Description School Vision /6 Mission Education Center is a K - school for newly arrived Spanish speaking immigrant students. This transitional program aims to help the newcomer achieve the necessary skills and confidence in order to succeed in regular schools at the end of one year. Our teachers are Spanish bilingual, credentialed to work with our newcomer population. Our main goals for our students are for them to: become oral English proficient, achieve academic success in Spanish and English, become familiar with our school system, be introduced to our multicultural society, and have their parents engaged in and supportive of their education. We work collaboratively with community agencies such as SF Volunteers, SF Recycling Program, New College, Mission Family Center, Headlands Institute, Mission Science Workshop, and Lion's Club. Our vision is to construct knowledge and experiences and provide developmentally appropriate lessons and learning opportunities for all of our students in order for them to be productive citizens, life long learners, academically successful, and use their bilingual and biliterate skills in our multicultural society. We want our students to recognize and develop their own values, acknowledge previous experiences and be proud of whom they are; their roots, culture and language. La beca, Nell Soto ayuda con las visitas domiciliarias, las sesiones / talleres mensuales, para los padres y la comunidad. Estos talleres para padres, se ofrecen sobre los temas, tales como, formas en que pueden ayudar con tareas escolares, lectoescritura familiar, nutrición, ciencia para la familia e información para la matrícula. Invitamos a nuestras familias a asistir a las clases comunitarias de inglés como segunda idioma, en nuestras instalaciones. Ofrecemos una clase de lectoescritura, para nuestros padres no alfabetizados. Descripción de la escuela El Centro de Educación de la Misión es una escuela de K-º para inmigrantes hispano-parlantes, recién llegados. El programa tiene como objetivo, ayudar a los recién llegados a adquirir; destrezas, habilidades y confianza, para lograr el éxito, en su transición hacia las escuelas regulares, al final de un año. Nuestros profesores son bilingües en español, con credenciales para trabajar con nuestra población de recién llegados. Los objetivos principales para nuestros estudiantes, es que logren ser: competentes en inglés oral, conseguir el éxito académico en español e inglés, familiarizarse con nuestro sistema escolar, ser introducidos a nuestra sociedad multicultural, y hacer que sus padres estén comprometidos, en y a favor de su educación. Trabajamos con Organismos Comunitarios como: Voluntarios de SF, el Programa de Reciclaje de SF, la Universidad Nueva, el Centro Familiar de la Misión, el Instituto Headlands, el Club de Taller de Ciencias de la Misión, y el Club de Leones. Visión de la escuela Nuestra visión, es la formación de conocimientos y experiencias, proveer lecciones apropiadas al desarrollo, y oportunidades de aprendizaje para todos nuestros estudiantes. Para que sean ciudadanos productivos, estudiantes de por vida, estudiantes exitosos, y utilicen sus destreza bilingües, orales y escritas, en nuestra sociedad multicultural.
