We are a small community school delivering a quality program with a strong emphasis on science, literacy, and English and Spanish language development. In addition to the core curriculum our children engage in Visual Thinking Strategies, attend the Marin Headlands Institute, participate in environmental education opportunities, use the scientific process onsite, attend Mission Science Workshops, and participate in an Oceans Month based on MARE. Marshall welcomes and values parent, student, teacher and community input to make collaborative decisions to increase student learning. Last Year s Best Achievements Marshall Elementary identified Science, Two-Way Immersion, and Visual Thinking Strategies as the essential components distinguishing our school from other SFUSD schools. Immediately following D.E.A.R. time there is an opportunity for parents/guardians to attend a literacy workshop and socialize with other parents. We also have evening workshops for parents and their families. Many parents are actively involved in the School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Committee, and our new PTA. We welcome and encourage parent involvement in the classrooms, the lunch room, on the playground, at home, in committees, and throughout the community. School Description School Vision / We are in our rd year of implementing a well articulated 9:1 Spanish Two-Way Immersion (TWI) program. Our TWI program provides native English speakers and native Spanish speakers the opportunity to become bilingual and bi-literate. We provide a rigorous academic curriculum while we ensure a safe and respectful learning environment. We emphasize the importance of language and critical thinking throughout the core curriculum and in enrichment activities. Marshall Elementary School is dedicated to providing a rigorous core curriculum while maintaining a positive learning environment. We welcome all stakeholders, including teachers, families, and community members, in achieving our goals of academic excellence for all students, including successful Spanish and English Language Development in order for our students to become reflective learners, critical thinkers, and environmentally and globally conscious citizens. Key Programs Marshall Elementary School has several programs and practices that promote a positive learning environment: 1) State curriculum and content standards are implemented within the context of a learning centered school. ) Enrichment opportunities are provided in the areas of art and science. ) There are numerous opportunities for parent/guardian education and involvement. ) Regular assemblies acknowledge student achievement in the areas of citizenship, academics and environmental awareness. Focus for Improvement Marshall School's academic focus is to close the achievement gap for English language learners and sustain progressive growth over time and to increase the percentage of students scoring at or above the proficient level on standardized tests. Somos una escuela comunitaria pequeña, que imparte un programa de calidad, con un fuerte énfasis en ciencia, lectoescritura, y el desarrollo de los idiomas inglés y español.
