Later, at her home, she and other family members (including Tomás, a cousin visiting from the United States) discuss the perceived typical Amerian breakfast. This segment recycles vocabulary and lexical grammar related to food and beverage for breakfast and lunch from the Vocabulario y gramática en contexto pages and reinforces the new vocabulary and lexical grammar presented on the Videohistoria pages. Si, mamá, un momento. LORENZO: Rosa, qué es esto? Es mucha comida, no? Cereal, huevos, jugo de naranja, leche, yogur... Ay! Sí, es mucha comida. Es para Tomás. LORENZO: Y qué preparas? Huevos, salchichas, tocino. LORENZO: Pero, nosotros nunca comemos mucho en el desayuno. Y tú no comes nada! En los Estados Unidos, todos comen mucho en el desayuno. Tomás necesita mucha comida. Begin where Rosa is naming the breakfast food items displayed (ROSA): Muy bien. Tengo toda la comida favorita de los norteamericanos... huevos, salchichas, tocino, cereal, jugo de naranja, yogur y leche.) Have each student divide a sheet of paper into eight squares by drawing lines across the sheet. Then have each write the word for the item in any one of the squares as the mother mentions each. Have students write in an additional food item in the empty square. Play the video again with sound so that students can verify their work. Students then draw a picture of each food item in its square. Extension: Form circles of seven to eight students. Students bring to the circle an illustration of one of the breakfast food items from above that they like. Begin the activity with one student showing the entire circle his or her illustration and saying to the group. Me gusta el tocino. He or she asks the student to his or her right, Qué te gusta? and that student responds by showing his or her illustration as he or she says, Me gusta el cereal y te gusta el tocino. (pointing to the first student). He or she then asks the student to his or her right, Qué te gusta? and that student responds by showing his or her illustration as he or she says, Me gusta el jugo de naranja, te gusta el cereal y le gusta el tocino. Continue around the circle until all students have participated and the first student has repeated the statements of the entire group.
