4 Comentarios del Presidente Agradecemos a nuestros voluntarios, socios y donantes; ellos son nuestros pilares y sin su ayuda, no podríamos haber esterilizado a 17,054 animales este año. Chair s Comments We thank our volunteers, associates and donors; they are our cornerstones and without their help, we could not have sterilized 17,054 animals this year. We speak different languages, walk different paths, come from different places, but our hearts beat as one. Throughout our life, we are in the pursuit of love and happiness and deep down we are all the same. Bless you for joining us to celebrate the wonderful animals with whom we share this planet. Thank you all for letting Spay/Panama reach so many animals and to spread the word that STERILIZATION is the only effective method to put a stop to the misery and unnecessary death of homeless animals. On behalf of Spay/Panama s Board of Directors and every animal and person whose lives are better today, I thank you. Cash donations from individuals were down offset by a grant increase from SPCAI and continued grants from Marian s Dream Foundation and Humane Society International for massive spay/neuter projects. b. Sale of promotional items, calendars and collection cans were slightly down. c. 1,917 more animals were sterilized in The average collected per animal increased to $16.16 compared to $11.65 in This increase was due in part to the Municipality of Panama subsidizing 3,600 animals at $15 each in d. Surgical supplies are up mainly due to an average 10% increase in supplies prices average per animal was $10.84 compared to $9.83 in e. 8 Other Issues for the Year Otros temas para el Año 31 offsite spay/neuter events were done to reach animals that have no way of getting to our spay center. Because Spay/Panama does not turn any animal away, 1,001 sterilizations were done for free. Considerable more clinical work was done beside the spay/ neuter to assist animals in distress brought in by lowincome guardians, rescuers and feeders. A decision was made to use the donated bus as a transportation mode instead of converting the bus in a mobile spay/neuter clinic because Spay/Panama does massive spay events and it is physically impossible to fit the necessary personnel in the bus to perform the number of operations. The mortality rate continues at 2 deaths per 1,000 animals sterilized. 31 jornadas de esterilizaciones se hicieron fuera del centro para tratar los animales que no pueden llegar a nosotros. Como Spay/Panamá no rechaza ningún animal, 1,001 esterilizaciones se hicieron gratuitamente. La tasa de mortalidad continua en 2 muertes por 1,000 animales esterilizados. 8

11 Subsequent Event In 2014, Spay/Panama presented to the Department of Animal Welfare a Strategic Plan for the Prevention of Domestics Animals on the Streets of the District of Panama. The plan included a statistical study of sterilizing 5,400 animals a year for the next five years. Spay/Panama is pleased to inform that the plan was accepted by the Municipality of Panama and an agreement of understanding was signed on February 2015 with the Mayor José I. Blandón. Evento Subsiguiente En el 2014, Spay/Panamá presentó al Departamento de Bienestar Animal un Plan Estratégico para la Prevención de Animales de Compañía en las Calles del Distrito de Panamá. El plan incluía un análisis estadístico del efecto de esterilizar a 5,400 animales anualmente en los próximos cinco años. Spay/Panamá se complace en informar que el plan fue aceptado por el Municipio de Panamá y el convenio se firmó en Febrero 2015 con el Honorable Alcalde José I. Blandón. 11
