2 Use the Subjunctive... If the action in the subordinate clause happened: at the same time as or after the verb in the main clause use the present tense subjunctive If the action in the subordinate clause happened: before the verb in the main clause, then you use the present perfect subjunctive (pretérito perfecto del subjuntivo) in the subordinate clause.
