Qué les gusta hacer la playa? Read the title and talk about the cover photo. Explain that one girl is wearing goggles to help her see underwater. Introduce the Text Guide childr through the text, helping with unfamiliar words so they can read the text successfully. Here are some suggestions: Page 2: In this book childr are telling what they do at the beach. Suggested language: Vayan a la página 2. Qué hac las niñas de la primera página? Sí, ellas nadan. Entonces, ellas dic: Nosotras nadamos la playa. Digan la palabra. Con qué letra cre que empieza la palabra? Busqu la palabra y señálla con el dedo. Page 3: Vayan a la página 3. Ways of Thinking As you discuss the text, make sure childr understand these teaching points: Thinking Within the Text Thinking Beyond the Text Thinking About the Text People of all ages can swim, dig, read, eat, and be happy at the beach. Teaching for Comprehding and Flucy, Heinemann, Portsmouth, N.H. Choices for Support Concepts of Print Practice early reading behaviors such as reading from left to right and pointing under each word. Phonemic Awaress and Word Work Provide practice as needed with words and sounds, using one of the following activities: Listing Game Have childr list for words that begin with the same sound. Have childr raise their hands if the words begin with the same sound and keep their hands in their laps if the beginning letter is differt. Say pairs of words, emphasizing the beginning consonant sound, for example: feliz and playa, nadamos and sol, and nosotros, cavamos and comemos, leemos and lavamos, etc. Build Words Build words that start with the same vowel as, using letter blocks or magnet letters. Help childr build the words, el, ella, es, esta, and este. 3 Lesson 18:
4 Writing About Reading Vocabulary Practice Read the directions and have childr complete the Vocabulario questions on Hoja reproducible Responding Have childr complete the vocabulary activities on page 7. Building Vocabulary Action Words Build on the action words in. Suggested language: Psemos todas las cosas que podemos hacer la playa. Qué otras cosas pued hacer la playa? Pued correr la playa? As childr suggest beach activities, write their words and stces on the board or on a large strip of paper. Begin the list with the word: Nosotros. (Possible suggestions: jugamos a la pelota, arrojamos una pelota, hacemos un castillo de ara, juntamos caracoles, volamos una cometa, usamos bronceador, pescamos, saltamos las olas) After childr have made their suggestions, read the list aloud together, pointing to each word.
