1 NEW YORK CITY COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK HUMANITIES DEPARTMANT COURSE OF STUDY: PRS 2202 /PR 202 COURSE TITLE: Latin American Literature (Lit Core) 3 Hours 3 credits COURSE DESCRIPTION: PREREQUISITE: TEXT:. Literature of Latin America from 15 th to 20 th centuries. Special attention is paid to 19 th and 20 th century authors. ENG1101/EG101 No textbook. See Course Pack reading list below. LEARNING OUTCOMES/COURSE OBECTIVES Students will learn the facts about the historical, social and cultural factors surrounding the discovery of the Americas and the development of Latin America in 19 Spanish speaking countries. Students will get acquainted with the concepts of literary genres through lectures, readings and discussion. Students will practice literary analysis to understand literary texts. Students will approach and experience new genres created in Latin America. Students will acquire firsthand knowledge of the work of living writers and artists through attendance at live presentations and exhibitions. ASSESSMENT: How much and how well the students learn will be assessed on a daily basis based on class participation which includes daily journal writing, unannounced quizzes, oral synopsis, recognition of elements of style. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Semester Work Plan --Unannounced quizzes on readings. --Study of map of Latin America/quiz --Two announced exams during the semester Mid-term and Final --Students will attend three cultural activities outside class: 2 poetry / prose readings and 1 art exhibit. One page report is due within one week of attending the activity. --There will be one five-page term paper plus one page for Works Cited and one Bibliography page. It will be due the 13th week of the semester. GRADING:

Beyond that, you can expect a WU grade. 3 lates count as one absence.
