2 Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 18, 2015 AUTHORITY AS SERVICE Jesus calls us to lay down our lives in humble service to God and neighbor. Jesus teaches that he did not come to be served by others. Rather, he came to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many through his ultimate sacrifice. This means that all those who sincerely to live as disciples of Jesus must be willing to lay down their lives in love and service to others. Isaiah 53: The first reading tells of the faithful servant of the Lord who gives his life as an offering for sin. The servant of the Lord takes on himself the sins of his people, and thus becomes a source of blessings for many Hebrews 4: The second reading exhorts us to confidently approach the throne of grace. We can approach Jesus with confidence because he knows our weaknesses and was like us in all things except sin. Mark 10: Or 10: The Gospel, Jesus teaches that whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant. Also Jesus is the Suffering Servant who gave his life in the humble service of his people. Jesus saw the authority as an opportunity to serve. This is how he wanted authority to be exercised in his community. Authority should not be given to those seek it, but only to those who have proved that they are willing to serve. Those entrusted with power over their fellow human beings ought to be caring, just, merciful, wise, tolerant. Today, in a special way, I would like to say THANK YOU to Deacon Alfredo Rios, Deacon Joe Garza and all of the volunteers who help sell ride tickets and food vouches after all the Masses this past weekend. My second highlight of this week is for our candidates running for fiesta queen, their parents and volunteers who have been raising funds thought these months. Thank you for your generosity and support. Your donations help us with the continued maintenance of our diverse ministries, to offer service and help to the community of Saint Joseph. Efrain 2 AUTORIDAD COMO SERVICIO Jesús nos llama a poner nuestras vidas en el servicio de humildad a Dios y al prójimo. Jesús enseña que él no vino para ser servido por otros. Más bien, él vino a servir y dar su vida como redención de muchos medio de su último sacrificio. Esto significa que todos los que con sinceridad viven como discípulos de Jesús deben estar dispuestos a dar su vida en el amor y el servicio a los demás. Isaías 53: La primera lectura nos habla del siervo fiel del Señor que da la vida como una ofrenda por el pecado. El siervo del Señor toma sobre sí los pecados de su pueblo, y por lo tanto se convierte en una fuente de bendiciones para muchos. Hebreos 4: La segunda lectura nos exhorta a acercarse con confianza al trono de la gracia. Podemos acercarnos a Jesús con confianza porque el sabe nuestras debilidades y era como nosotros en todo, menos en el pecado. Marcos 10: O 10, El Evangelio, Jesús enseña que el que quiera ser grande entre nosotros será nuestro servidor. También Jesús es el Siervo sufriente que dio su vida en el servicio humilde de su pueblo. Jesús vio a la autoridad como una oportunidad para servir. Este es la forma que él quería autoridad para ser ejercido en su comunidad. La autoridad no se debe dar a los que la buscan, pero sólo a los que han demostrado que están dispuestos a servir. Los encargados del poder sobre los demás seres humanos deben ser amables, justo, misericordioso, sabio y tolerante. 3 MASS OF REMEMBRANCE Monday, November 2, 2015 at 7:00pm You are invited to a special trilingual Mass in memory of our loved ones who have died during the past year. The Mass will be offered for all members of the parish who have died since November 1, Names of family members whose funeral services were not at St. Joseph Church but have died during the past year may be added to the scrolls. Please call the office to add names before Monday, October 26th. There will be reception after Mass. For remembrance of the deceased we have envelopes available in the vestibule to list your love ones. You can place them in the collection basket or bring them to the parish office. La misa se ofrecerá para todos los miembros de la parroquia que fallecieron desde el primero de noviembre de Se puede añadir a la lista nombres de familiares que fallecieron durante este año pasado pero no tuvieron sus servicios de funeral en la Iglesia de St. Joseph. Altar for Day of the Dead In Latin America All Souls Day is celebrated as Día de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead). Altars are assembled in honor of the departed and decorated with flowers and sugar candy skulls, skeleton toys, candles, photographs, bread, chocolate, and the favorite food and drink of the departed. Our parish will have an altar to commemorate our loved ones who have passed away. You may bring the photos of your loved ones to the parish office before Monday, October 26 during office hours. Please make sure your name and phone number are in the back of the photograph. Altar para el Día de los Muertos En América Latina el Día de Todas las Almas se celebra como él (Día de los Muertos).
