Además el curso los aprestará para desempeñarse satisfactoriamente en el ambiente laboral del comercio internacional y para asistir a seminarios académicos. En su comunicación en inglés, los estudiantes aplicarán todas las destrezas de la comunicación con una calidad de desempeño cercana a la de un nativo-hablante culto del idioma inglés.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE To prepare students to be active participants in the world of international affairs and relations and to be actively involved in academic seminars related to the above mentioned issues, showing proficiency in the English language. 4. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 4.1. LISTENING AND SPEAKING Students will be able to understand the main ideas as well as the details of input related to the world of international affairs. Similarly, students will react to such input using advanced, formal English with proper stress and intonation making no unnatural pauses in their oral production. Oral production will be used in carrying out business tasks and/or taking part in international cross-cultural business negotiation cases. Each topic will be thoroughly investigated by the students in order to give presentations and hold discussions and debates READING Students will be capable of reading, understanding and creatively responding to authentic material of high register and substantial length. Through the reading material, students will increase their vocabulary, improve their knowledge of advanced grammatical structure and expand their repertoire for discussion WRITING Students will be able to write formal letters, formal s, reports, agreements, contracts, short essays (4-6 paragraphs) with a clear thesis statement. The students will also have the opportunity to polish their note-taking skills.. COURSE CONTENT The general content will include the following topics: The business world (going public, competition, banking, training, consulting) BEC Higher practice tests

GRAMMAR CONTENT The grammar content will depend on the students necessities and the grammar required to successfully elaborate all written productions (structuring of complex sentences) and to participate in negotiations (formulation of questions, usage of different modal verbs, comparisons, superlatives, etc.). 6. METHODOLOGY Classes will have a communicative approach with student centered communicative language teaching activities. Special emphasis will be given to real life business situations, reading comprehension and acquisition of business lexicon. 7. ASSESSMENT 7.1. EVALUATION ACTIVITIES The student will be assessed through a variety of activities which include - oral work in class - homework - oral presentations - written production - grammar exercises and analysis - reading and vocabulary exercises - unit quizzes - a midterm oral exam - a midterm written exam - video presentations - a final oral and a final written exam.
4 Oral work is graded based on 4 categories: Pronunciation Vocabulary/ expressions learned in unit Grammar Content/argumentation 7.2. ASSESSMENT DATES CRONOGRAMA DE EVALUACIONES: SISTEMA DE CALIFICACIÓN (puntaje asignado a pruebas parciales): FECHA DE ENTREGA DE CALIFICACIONES EN SECRETARÍA: Tipo de Evaluación Fecha Evaluación Puntaje Fecha de entrega de calificaciones en Secretaría Primer parcial : classwork and quizzes 12 al 16 de al 23 de Segundo parcial: classwork and quizzes 24 al 28 de de oct. al4 de nov. Tercer parcial: classwork 28 de nov. al 2 de 10 al 9 de diciembre and quizzes diciembre Examen final: written and oral 12 al 16 de dic. 20 Cuando lo disponga la Secretaría - El puntaje mínimo de aprobación del curso es 30/0 y para el examen final es 8/20. - El profesor tendrá el plazo máximo de siete días calendario contados a partir de la rendición de las pruebas parciales para revisar y comunicar a los estudiantes el resultado de dichas pruebas. - Solamente se tolerarán cuatro inasistencias por cada crédito semestral. - Art. 33 Podrán rendirse evaluaciones orales, u otros tipos de evaluación, de común acuerdo entre el profesor y los estudiantes y con la autorización del decano o del director de escuela. Para el caso de evaluaciones orales, prácticas u otras, se estructurará la prueba y se establecen los criterios de evaluación, que serán dados a conocer a los estudiantes durante la primera semana de clases. 8.
