DEL CURSO Este curso introductorio prepara a los estudiantes para emplear el inglés en el mundo de los negocios y de las relaciones internacionales utilizando dicha lengua como su herramienta de comunicación e intercambio cultural. Además, el curso los aprestará para desempeñarse satisfactoriamente en el ambiente laboral y para asistir a seminarios académicos. En lo relativo al uso del inglés, los estudiantes aplicarán todas las destrezas de la comunicación con un nivel intermedio alto del idioma en cuestión. 3. OBJETIVO GENERAL Students will be able to manage English for International Affairs proficiently at a high intermediate level, in all of the four skills.

Relate academic texts having to do with international politics, ecomy and trade. Use high intermediate grammatical structures appropriately in written and oral production. Use collocations appropriately related to business lexicon. Determine an appropriate business lexicon to be used according to context and semantic fields. To learn unit vocabulary related to advertising. Gerunds and infinitives Answer questions about the Ecomist article The harder sell at different levels of comprehension. Learn vocabulary from The harder sell by matching the words with their meanings, and completing a collocation-cloze exercise. The students will identify infinitives and gerunds taken from the above article, apply their rules for use, and complete a cloze article using their correct form. an reading comprehension related to different kinds of advertising used by companies today using questions based on the Bloom Taxomy. synym, collocation and cloze exercises for the unit vocabulary on advertising. identification, rule application and a cloze exercise for learning gerunds and infinitives in an advertising context. -be able to describe common types of advertising, when it should be used, and illustrate it in a group fax. -be able to use the unit vocabulary in a fax and role play assignments. -be able to use gerunds and infinitives in a fax and role play assignments. The students will act as director of a clothing company and write a memo to their staff informing them of the reasons for making a decision about the company brand and what the brand should represent.. The students will use 2% of the unit vocabulary on brands in the memo and do a role play related to brand significance that does the same.

The students will use 20% of the adjectives and adverbs taught in the unit in the above memo related to brands and complete a role play that does the same. ENSEÑANZA - APRENDIZAJE UNIT NINE Learn basic positive and negative concepts about investing. Learn the unit vocabulary about investing Read the Ecomist article Freud, folly and finance and answer questions about investing decisions and behaviors. Prefixes Determine the meaning of a prefix from a sentence from the above article and then match the prefixes to a number of meanings. To learn vocabulary related to energy production from the Ecomist article Fossil fuel dependency by adding negative prefixes to certain adjectives. They will then make collocations with the terms oil, energy and power and complete a cloze exercise with the terms. Find examples from the text Fossil fuel dependency of conditionals type I, II, and III and state which time each refers to.
