2 PASTOR S PERSPECTIVE Dear Parishioners: Three men were working hard at a quarry. When asked what they were doing, one man answered gruffly, Can you see I m breaking stones? The second man said matter-of-factly, I m making a living for my wife and family. The third man, however, replied with a glowing smile, I m helping to build a cathedral. What a big impact our perspective has on our outlook in life! Soon after I was installed as St. Agatha s 12th pastor, I began writing this Pastor s Perspective column for our weekly bulletin. I write it, not simply to fill up the bulletin space, nor because it s part of my job. First and foremost, I write it to set my own perspectives straight. I thank God if it has been helpful to you as well. Beginning next week, however, I will let Br. Hung take over the task of writing for this column. Whether he will share his reflection or try to answer some questions, I hope you will accept his writing with kindness. But please do not hesitate to give him feedbacks. Your constructive criticisms will go a long way in shaping Br. Hung s future priestly ministry. Life in the parish can feel tedious at times like breaking stones, or obligatory just to fulfill our duty, but it could also be exciting like building a cathedral. It s all about perspective pastor s and parishioners alike. Fr. Vincentius Do, Pastor FATHER S DAY All of our Masses on Father s Day weekend, June 18-19, will be offered for all the fathers in our parish, living and deceased. We will continue the tradition of placing all Father s Day intentions on the high altar, next to the tabernacle, throughout that weekend as a sign of our commitment to pray for our fathers. If you would like to add your intentions, please get a Father s Day envelope from our sacristy or rectory. PARISH PRIESTS APPRECIATION DAY St. Pope John Paul II established that, on the solemnity of the Sacred Heart, the Church observes a World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests. This year, we will do so with joy and gratitude, as we also celebrate the anniversary of Fr. Ortiz s and Fr. Do s ordination to the priesthood. Fr. Ortiz was ordained by Bishop Camilo in the Dominican Republic on June 27, Fr. Do was ordained by Bishop DiMarzio in St. James Cathedral on June 2, Together, our parish will observe the day after the solemnity of the Sacred Heart, June 24, as our Parish Priests Appreciation Day. Our 5:00 PM Mass that day will be celebrated in the three languages of our parish English, Spanish, and Chinese. After Mass, all are invited to go to Kelly Hall for a parish reception. ANNUAL LUCHEON Please Join the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville on Friday, June 23, as they host their 16th Annual Beauty of the Spirit Luncheon at Crest Hollow County Club in Woodbury, NY. Each year the luncheon celebrates the beauty of the spirit of women their strength, compassion and wisdom. Guest enjoy fantastic auctions and raffles, as well as an inspirational lecture from a Sister keynote speaker. Proceeds from the event benefit the retired Sisters the beautiful and dedicated women who have spent their entire lives serving the tri-state area and beyond. SUMMER CAMP A five-day summer camp, July 9-13, at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception (440 West Neck Road, Huntington, NY) for young Catholic men and women ages 14 to 18 who are the future missionary disciples and faith leaders of the Church, Quo Vadis is an opportunity for them to encounter and learn more about vocations, to deepen their faith, and to better discern God s call in their lives. The process of joining the Catholic Church is known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Each year, adults seeking to join the Church, or to complete their sacraments, receive weekly support, encouragement and assistance from the RCIA program. Registration is by appointment only. CATECHISTS NEEDED Every year our Faith Formation Program relies on volunteers to pass on the faith to our children. 3 LA PERSPECTIVA DEL PÁRROCO Queridos feligreses: Tres hombres trabajaban duro en una mina. Cuando se les preguntó qué estaban haciendo, un hombre respondió bruscamente: Puedes ver que estoy rompiendo piedras? El segundo hombre dijo sin rodeos: Me estoy ganando la vida para mi esposa y mi familia. Sin embargo, el tercer hombre, respondió con una sonrisa radiante: Estoy ayudando a construir una catedral. Qué gran impacto tiene nuestra perspectiva en nuestra visión de la vida! Poco después de que me instalaron como el párroco de Santa Agatha, comencé a escribir esta columna de Perspectiva del Párroco para nuestro boletín semanal. Lo escribo no simplemente para llenar el espacio del boletín, ni porque es parte de mi trabajo. En primer lugar, lo escribo para establecer mis propias perspectivas directamente. Doy gracias a Dios si también ha sido útil para ti. Sin embargo, a partir de la próxima semana, dejaré que el Hno. Hung asuma la tarea de escribir para esta columna. Si él comparte su reflexión o intenta contestar algunas preguntas, espero que usted acepte su escritura con amabilidad. Pero no dude en darle retroalimentación. Sus críticas constructivas ayudaran en la formación del futuro ministerio sacerdotal del Hno. Hung. La vida en la parroquia puede ser tediosa a veces como romper piedras, o obligatorio sólo para cumplir con nuestro deber, pero también podría ser emocionante como la construcción de una catedral. Todo tiene que ver con la perspectiva, tanto con los párrocos como con los feligreses. Padre Vicente Do, Párroco DÍA DEL PADRE Todas nuestras Misas del fin de semana del Día del Padre, de junio, se ofrecerá a todos los padres en nuestra parroquia, vivos y difuntos. Vamos a seguir la tradición de colocar las intenciones del Día del Padre en el altar al lado del tabernáculo, a lo largo de ese fin de semana como una señal de nuestro compromiso de orar por nuestros padres. Si desea añadir sus intenciones, por favor de usar un sobre del Día del Padre los sobres están en nuestra sacristía o rectoría. DÍA DE APRECIACIÓN DE LOS SACERDOTES PARROQUIALES El Papa Juan Pablo II estableció que, en la solemnidad del Sagrado Corazón, la Iglesia celebra una Jornada Mundial de Oración por la Santificación de los Sacerdotes. Este año, lo haremos con alegría y gratitud, ya que también celebramos el aniversario de ordenación al sacerdocio de Padre Ortiz y Padre Do. P. Ortiz fue ordenado por el Obispo Camilo en la República Dominicana el 27 de junio de P. Do fue ordenado por el Obispo DiMarzio en la Catedral de Santiago el 2 de junio de Juntos, nuestra parroquia observará el día después de la solemnidad del Sagrado Corazón, el 24 de junio, como nuestro Día de Apreciación de los Sacerdotes Parroquiales. Nuestra Misa de las 5:00 PM se celebrará ese día en los tres idiomas de nuestra parroquia: inglés, español y chino. Después de la Misa, todos están invitados a ir a Kelly Hall (auditorio de la escuela) para una recepción parroquial. (No habrá Misa española de las 7:00 PM ese día.) SE NECESITAN MONAGUILLOS El ministerio de monaguillos se encuentra entre los primeros de todas las funciones litúrgicas, sólo superada por los ministerios de sacerdotes y diáconos en términos de historia y cercanía al altar. En la Iglesia primitiva, monaguillos eran por lo general los hombres adultos que se preparan para el sacerdocio. Servir en el altar es un ministerio privilegiado, no sólo para ayudar a los sacerdotes en el altar y ayudar a los feligreses celebrar Misa mas en oración, pero sobre todo para dar gloria a Dios. Ahora estamos reclutando más monaguillos para nuestra parroquia. Cualquier niño o niña que ha recibido la Primera Comunión es elegible. Por favor, póngase en contacto con Dulce en el Rectoría los viernes por la tarde para un formulario de inscripción.
