2 WORDS OF THANKS Dear Fathers, Deacon, Sisters, and Parishioners of St. Agatha s Church, When we first entered our seminary in Viet Nam in 2007, our bishop told us: Start to love and pray for YOUR people from now on. I understood what my bishop meant as he said so, but who would be MY people? I did not know, honestly. Anyway, I have loved and prayed for MY people from then on. And now I realized that I started to love and pray for all of YOU - the Priests, Deacon, Sisters, and the people of St. Agatha s Church - even long before we knew one another; for YOU are MY people. Over 400 days staying and doing my summer assignments and pastoral year at St. Agatha s Church (May 7, 2016 July 23, 2017), I have considered YOU as MY people whom I love so much and feel very dear to me. Every time we had a chance to meet one another, I always wished to talk and share with each and every of you much more. But due to the lack of my foreign language ability, I already gave you big smiles and tried to talk to you as much as I could. Whenever I went back to my seminary in Yonkers, I just desired to get back to the parish as soon as possible; since I felt it was as my beloved home in this alien land. Though there were ups and downs, sadness and joy, despair and hopefulness in my inner life, I always felt that I have been surrounded by your love, care, and prayer. For that I have felt secured, assured, consoled, hopeful and happy after all. Where there is a good land, the birds will build their nests. Being a Seminarian, I have no freedom to choose where to go. Yet I deeply thank my superiors for assigning me to such a wonderful parish to learn, experience and serve. This is one of the most vibrant and active parishes I have seen in this country. If God s willing, I would wish and try to form my parish in the model of St. Agatha s in the future. I deeply feel graceful and will keep in mind the debt of gratitude to all Priests, Deacon, Sisters, and each and every member of St. Agatha s Church. I would like to thank Father Do for accepting me and giving me a great opportunity to learn, experience and serve in this parish. I also thank him for his love, care, lessons, prayers, and good example of a spiritual shepherd. I would like to thank Father Ortiz, Father Lin, Deacon Emilio, and the Sisters for their inspiration, help, guidance, and prayer. I would like to thank parish staff, secretaries, cooks, house keeper, personnel, and all parish groups and organizations. I would like to give thanks especially to all Altar Servers, Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers, Catechists, Youth Group, my students in St. Agatha s school and in Faith Formation Program, school teachers and personnel with whom I had a chance to work closely. And last but not least, I heartily express my deepest gratitude to each and every parishioner for your great piety, generosity, support and prayer. All of you have done so much for me, as I in the contrary have done very little to you. A Vietnamese poet says: As we are living in a certain place, it is just a living place. But when we are leaving, it becomes a part of our heart and our soul. St. Agatha s Church has already been a very dear part of my heart and my soul. Thank you all very much! Be assured that you are in my prayers and please keep me in your prayers as well, as I continue my journey to the priesthood. May God bless and be with you always! Hung Cao, Seminarian MISSION APPEAL At all Masses on the weekend of July 29-30, Sr. Christina Ma and Sr. Kathleen McCarthy will speak on behalf of the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity (MSBT). Their call is to take on the abandoned work of the Church in poor or remote places of the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico, where people need material help and spiritual encouragement. The Sisters work in the areas of social services, young adult ministry, outreach to migrant workers, health-care, at-risk children s programs, retreat ministries, and family life development programs. Please show your support so that the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity continue to be A Power for Good! GOD DAY PILGRIMAGE This year s pilgrimage to honor our Heavenly Father will take place on Sunday, August 6, at the National Blue Army Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (674 Mountainview Rd, Washington, NJ). Fr. Francis Mulvaney from OLPH will be the celebrant and homilist. There will be two buses leaving from the corner of 6th Ave. and 60th St. at 8:00 AM. Bus fare is $30. Bring your own lunch. 3 PALABRAS DE AGRADECIMENTO Queridos Padres, Diáconos, Hermanas y Feligreses de la Iglesia de Santa Agata, En el 2007 cuando entramos por primera vez a nuestro seminario en Viet Nam, nuestro obispo nos dijo: Empiecen a amar y orar por SU pueblo de ahora en adelante. Yo entendí lo que mi obispo quería decir, pero quién sería MI pueblo? Honestamente, no lo sabía. De todos modos, he amado y orado por MI pueblo desde entonces. Y ahora me di cuenta que empecé amar y a orar por todos USTEDES los Sacerdotes, el Diácono, las Hermanas y el pueblo de la Iglesia de Santa Agatha mucho antes de que nos conociéramos; porque TÚ eres MI pueblo. Permaneciendo más de 400 días, haciendo mis asignaciones de verano y el año pastoral en la Iglesia de Sta. Agatha (7 de mayo de de julio de 2017), los he considerado como MI pueblo que tanto amo y me siento muy querido. Cada vez que tuvimos la oportunidad de conocernos, siempre quise hablar y compartir con cada uno de ustedes mucho más. Pero debido a mi lenguaje limitado, les di grandes sonrisas y trate de hablar con ustedes lo mucho que pude. Cada vez que regresaba a mi seminario en Yonkers, sólo deseaba volver a la parroquia lo mas pronto posible. Ya que sentí que era mi amado hogar en esta tierra extraña. Aunque había altibajos, tristeza y alegría, desesperación y desesperanza en mi vida interior, siempre sentí que estaba rodeado de su amor, cuidado y oración. Por eso me he sentido, seguro, consolados, esperanzados y feliz después de todo. Donde hay una buena tierra, los pájaros construirán sus nidos. Siendo un Seminarista, no tengo libertad para elegir a dónde ir. Sin embargo, agradezco profundamente a mis superiores por asignarme a una parroquia tan maravillosa para aprender, experimentar y servir. Esta es una de las parroquias más vibrantes y activas que he visto en este país. Si Dios quiere, yo deseo y quiero tratar de formar mi parroquia en el modelo de Santa Agatha en el futuro. Me siento profundamente agradecido y tengo una deuda de gratitud presente a todos los Sacerdotes, Diáconos, Hermanas y a cada uno de los miembros de la Iglesia de Sta Agatha. Quiero agradecer al Padre Do por aceptarme y darme una gran oportunidad para aprender, experimentar y servir en esta parroquia. Yo también le dio las gracias por su amor, cuidado, lecciones, oraciones, y por ser un buen ejemplo de un pastor espiritual. Quiero agradecer al Padre Ortiz, al Padre Lin, al Diácono Emilio ya las Hermanas por su inspiración, ayuda, orientación y oración. Me gustaría dar las gracias al personal de la parroquia, secretarias, cocineros, encargada de la casa y todos los grupos y organizaciones parroquiales. Quiero darles las gracias especialmente a todos los Monaguillos, Lectores y Ministros Eucarísticos, Catequistas, Grupo de Jóvenes, a mis alumnos en la escuela de Sta. Agatha y del Programa de Formación de la Fe, maestros y personal de la escuela de Sta. Agatha con quienes tuve la oportunidad de trabajar de cerca. Y por último, pero no menos importante, expreso sinceramente mi más profunda gratitud a todos y cada uno de los feligreses por su gran piedad, generosidad, apoyo y oración. Todos ustedes han hecho tanto por mí, y yo por lo contrario, he hecho muy poco por ustedes. Un poeta vietnamita dice: Como estamos viviendo en un lugar determinado, es sólo un lugar de vida. Pero cuando nos vamos, se convierte en parte de nuestro corazón y nuestra alma. La Iglesia de Sta. Agatha ya ha sido una parte muy querida de mi corazón y mi alma. Muchas gracias a todos!
