1 SFC News The School Site Council meeting is this Thursday, January 26th at 6pm. We will continue with our work around project-based learning and begin to strategize around budget cuts. Please come! SFC congratulates James Gibbons, Assata Conley, Amiyah Jordan, Dakari Mayfield, Yolanda Flakes, Shakila King, Cierra Dunn, Ciana Adams, Aliyah Carrie, and Isabel Gonzalez for being invited to the African American Honor Roll Academic Pin and Candlelight Ceremony on February 29 th at St. Mary s Cathedral. Creative Arts Charter School was badly damaged due to a fire in Alamo Square over winter recess. They are holding a book drive Thursday, February 2 nd from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Books, Inc. on 3515 California Street. The deadline to apply for San Francisco Unified Schools for next year is January 27 th. It is critical that all 8 th graders submit their applications this week complete with all seven choices. If you would like any support with this please ask Jessica, Susi, Terra, or Ivy. If families have an incoming younger sibling please make sure to bring in the application and birth certificate directly to Ivy. Strong Community School Site Council: Thurs Jan 26 th at 6:00pm. Strong Individuals We support students to be strong individuals through the following classroom and school activities: 1/2: Students in Alison, Smita, Ginny, and Veronica s classes are attending the Adventures in Music (AIM) concerts at Davies Symphony Hall today. In the winter and spring there will be small group ensemble concerts at the Boys and Girls Club for students in K-4 classes. K/1: Students in K/1 are working on narrative writing. They are telling stories by sketching a beginning, middle and end across pages and writing with details. Ask your child about their narrative work. 5/6: Students in 5/6 humanities are also working on narrative writing. Many students are entering their fantasy narratives to a national writing contest. The first place prize is a pair of tickets to the Hunger Games movie premiere in LA! 2 Noticias de SFC La reunión del Concilio del Sitio Escolar es este jueves, 26 de enero at 6pm. Vamos a seguir con nuestro trabajo sobre el aprendizaje basado en proyectos y empezar a hablar sobre el recorte al presupuesto. Asista por favor! En el invierno y la primavera va a haber conciertos de conjuntos pequeños en el Club de Boys y Girls para los estudiantes en grados K-4. K/1: Los alumnos están trabajando en la escritura narrativa. Están contando historias a través de dibujar el principio, el medio, y el fin en las páginas y luego escribiendo con detalles. Pregunte a su hijo sobre sus tareas de escritura. 5/6: Los alumnos en las humanidades también están trabajando en la escritura narrativa.
