1 This is the Second Annual Tiger Tales Read- a- Thon sponsored by Bailey s Elementary School PTA. The Read- A- Thon promotes literacy and a love of reading in addition to raising funds for the PTA. By holding a pledge- based event, our hope is that families reach out to friends, neighbors, grandparents, co- workers anyone who supports the mission of Bailey s ES PTA and loves reading! How Does the Read- A- Thon Work? 1. Students ask for pledges before and during the event. Pledges can be given for the number of minutes read by the student during the Read- A- Thon or sponsors may make a flat pledge for the event. 2. Beginning Monday, February 23, students use their Tiger Tales Reading Record to track how many minutes are read each day. All reading time counts! Students can track time reading in class, being read to, and reading for other homework assignments. 3. We ask Parents/Guardians to verify each day s reading by initialing the Reading Record each day. 4. Students continue to add to their reading time for the entire two weeks of the Read- A- Thon, which ends on Sunday, March 8. Students should hand in their finished Reading Records on Monday, March 9. Everyone who returns a form will be entered into our Tiger Tales Read- A- Thon Raffle. 5. Starting March 9, collect your pledges. All payments and pledge form envelopes are due back by Friday, March 13, to teachers or the PTA box in the office. Payments must be received by Friday, March 13, to be considered for Top Fundraiser prizes. This is our big PTA fundraiser for the year. All funds raised go to support important programs and activities throughout Bailey s. Let s show everyone that Bailey s loves reading! Parent/Guardian must sign the Agreement on the Pledge Form for a student to participate in the Read- A- Thon. 2) Prizes for Reading and Fundraising Top Reading Class in Grades K- 2 and 3-5 DONUT PARTY ALL students who return their Tiger Tales Reading Record receive a Read- A- Thon pencil and are entered into our raffle for a chance to win more prizes! Top Individual Reader (Most Minutes Read) in Grades K- 2 and 3-5 1st Place Readers KINDLE FIRE TABLET* 2 nd Place Readers - $50 Barnes & Noble Gift Card 3 rd Place Readers - $25 Barnes & Noble Gift Card Top Individual Fundraiser in Grades K- 2 and st Place Fundraisers KINDLE FIRE TABLET* 2 nd Place Fundraisers - $50 Barnes & Noble Gift Card 3 rd Place Fundraisers - $25 Barnes & Noble Gift Card (*Only 1 Kindle will be awarded per student. Families with multiple students at Bailey s cannot combine pledges for prizes. 5) Scoring Each student s Minutes Read Total is considered the amount of reading time completed and verified by the student s parent/guardian. Parent/guardian must initial next to the minutes read each day. Students too young to read can be read to. Families with multiple students at Bailey s cannot combine reading minutes for prizes. Note: Reading Records are checked for accuracy. The PTA reserves the right to correct errors in calculations of reading times. The PTA will remove from the contest, with the approval of school administrators, Reading Records suspected of containing false information. 6) Safety Ask for pledges from people you know. DO NOT ASK STRANGERS! 7) Checks All checks should be made out to Bailey s Elementary School PTA. 8) Due Dates Tiger Tales Reading Records are due MONDAY, March 9.
