Let me be the first to say congratulations as we move towards the final three months of the 2017-2018 school year. This year the ceremony will be held on June 20th at San Mateo Performing Arts Center (SMPAC) located at 600 N. Delaware Street. The ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. All students must be at SMPAC for dress rehearsal at 9:00 a.m. Doors will open at 10:00 a.m. for guests. Payment for 8th grade promotion activities has been modified this year. There will be a single payment made for all activities. Similar to last year, four promotion tickets will be given to each student s family and a parent signature will be required upon receipt. All changes have been made in order to facilitate the organization of the promotion ceremony and lessen the cost to families. Below is a schedule and description of promotion-related activities: PROMOTION FORM TURN-IN DATES AND PAYMENT FOR ALL PROMOTION ACTIVITIES. MARCH 14 1:00-3:30 p.m. MARCH 15, 16, 19 7:30-8:00 a.m. MARCH 19 2:50-5:30 p.m. Attached is the permission slip for Great America and the promotion activities order form. Please sign the permission slip and turn in with promotion payment on one of the turn in dates listed above. Parent signature is needed to receive the four promotion tickets per family. TUESDAY, MARCH 20TH - GOWN MEASUREMENTS All graduates will be wearing royal blue polyester graduation gowns during the ceremony. Students will be measured for gowns on Tuesday, March 20th during 7th period. Students who have a graduation gown from previous Borel graduates do not need to purchase a new gown. Please indicate this preference on the attached order form. TUESDAY, JUNE 19TH - GREAT AMERICA TRIP On Tuesday, June 19 th students are expected to arrive by the start of 1 st period, 8:05 am. Eighth grade students going to Great America will leave Borel at approximately 9:00 a.m. We hope to arrive at Great America for the 10:00 a.m. opening. The buses will leave Great America at 4:30 p.m. and will return to Borel between 5:00 and 5:20 p.m., depending on traffic. Students may not to be picked up at Great America, they are required to return to Borel with their

chaperone by bus. Please arrange to pick up your child no later than 5:30 p.m. in front of the Borel office. If that is not possible, please make other arrangements to transport your child home. WEDNESDAY JUNE 20TH - DRESS REHEARSAL AND PROMOTION CEREMONY Dress rehearsal at SMPAC will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. preceding the ceremony. We will begin admitting guests at 10:00 a.m. and the ceremony will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. All guests must have a promotion ticket to enter the Performing Arts Center. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20TH 5:00-8:00 p.m. - PROMOTION DANCE - The dance is in the Borel gym. Please plan to transport your graduate to and from the dance. The PTA will provide drinks and food. Please make sure your child arrives at the gym by 5:00 p.m. and stays until 8:00 p.m. Students will not have in and out privileges during the dance. THURSDAY, JUNE 21st, Last Day Activities, Minimum Day Dismissal, 12:48 p.m. Eighth graders will attend classes during the day, there will be a special time for yearbook signing with friends. We will distribute official diplomas to students at the end of the day. We appreciate your support with our plans for promotion week. As a reminder page 12 of Binder Reminder states, Students may be prohibited from participating in any activity, including end of the year activities, based on attendance/tardies,poor behavior or academic performance. El martes, 19 de junio se espera que los estudiantes lleguen para el comienzo del 1er periodo a las 8:05 a.m. Los estudiantes del octavo grado, que asistirán a Great America, saldrán de Borel aproximadamente a las 9:00 a.m. Esperamos llegar a Great America para la apertura a las 10:00 a.m. Los autobuses saldrán de Great America a las 4:30 p.m. y regresarán a Borel entre las 5:00 and 5:20 p.m., dependiendo del tráfico. JUEVES, 21 DE JUNIO, Actividades del Último Día, Salida de Día Mínimo, 12:48 p.m. Los estudiantes del octavo grado asistirán a clases durante el día, habrá un tiempo especial para firmar anuarios con los amigos.
