Biograhical note Celso Garrido-Lecca was born in Piura, Peru in 192 He began his musical training in the National Conservatory o Lima, later on studied comosition with roessor Rodolo Holzmann in the same institution In 190, he traveled with a scholarshi to Santiago, Chile to conclude and master his musical studies our years later he became the musical adviser and comoser o the Institute o the Theater at the University o Chile He stayed there or ten years and during that time he wrote a large amount o music or the various theater lays In 19 he began to teach in the Deartment o Comosition in the aculty o Science and Musical Arts at the same University, later becoming Chairman o the Deartment Garrido-Lecca had the oortunity to work with Aaron Coland in 19 in Tanglewood with a scholarshi Uon his return to Peru in 197, he became Proessor o Comosition o the National Conservatory o Lima soon ater, he was aointed Director o this institution until 1979 The musical roduction o Garrido-Lecca includes chamber and symhonic works, which have been erormed in numerous concerts and estivals in America, Euroe and Asia Among his most renowned works are Intihuatana or strings quartet, Antaras or double string quartet and double bass, Laudes I and II both or orchestra, Elegía a Machu-Picchu (layed by the New York Philharmonic in 197), Concerto or Cello and rchestra, Simhony Nº2, Concerto or Guitar, and the multimedia work El Movimiento y el Sueño or double choir, two narrators and orchestra, among others During his lie as a comoser he has been awarded many comosition rizes both in Peru rimeros estudios musicales en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Lima, ingresando osteriormente a la carrera de comosición con el roesor Rodolo Holzmann En 190 viaó becado a Santiago de Chile a concluir y ereccionar sus estudios musicales Cuatro años más tarde ingresó como comositor y asesor musical al Instituto de Teatro de la Universidad de Chile, donde ermaneció diez años escribiendo numerosas artituras de música incidental Ingresa en 19 al Deartamento de Comosición de la acultad de Ciencias y Artes Musicales de la mencionada universidad, ocuando osteriormente el cargo de ee del Deartamento En una beca en los Estados Unidos en 19, tiene la oortunidad de estudiar con Aaron Coland en Tanglewood A su regreso al Perú en 197, asume la cátedra de Comosición del Conservatorio Nacional de Música y osteriormente hasta 1979 desemeñó el cargo de Director de dicha institución La roducción musical de Garrido-Lecca abarca obras sinónicas y de cámara, eecutadas en numerosos conciertos y estivales de América, Euroa y Asia Entre sus comosiciones más relevantes se ueden citar Intihuatana ara cuarteto de cuerdas, Antaras ara doble cuarteto de cuerdas y contrabao, Laudes I y II ambas ara orquesta, Elegía a Machu-Picchu (eecutada or la ilramónica de Nueva York en 197), el Concierto ara cello y orquesta, la Sinonía Nº2, el Concierto ara Guitarra y la obra escénica El Movimiento y el Sueño ara dos narradores, doble coro y orquesta, entre otras PERRMANCE USE En su actividad como comositor ha ganado numerosos rimeros remios en concursos de comosición tanto en Perú como en Chile Entre sus obras remiadas se encuentran Divertimento, El movimiento y el sueño, Trio ara un nuevo tiemo, Cuarteto Nº2 y Retablos sinónicos Desde 198 viaa continuamente a Santiago de Chile manteniendo estrecho contacto con la vida musical de ese aís Es miembro de la Sociedad de Comositores de Chile y de la Sociedad del Derecho de Autor SCD Ha sido avorecido con las becas del Instituto Internacional de Educación en 191 y de la undación Simón Guggenheim en 19 In 1982 he was condecorated by the Sanish government with the rder o Civilian Merit In 1997 the government o Chile awarded him
