Object Pronouns Pg 146 right side
Pg 146 right side Two Types of Object Pronouns There are two types of object pronouns.. Direct Object Pronouns (DOPNs) answer the question Who or what is receiving the action of the verb? Indirect Object Pronouns (IDOPNs) answer the question "To whom?" or "For whom?" the action of the verb is performed. It tells us where the DOPN is going.
Example María gave a gift to Juan. Subject verb Direct object Indirect object What did she give? To whom does she give the gift? Where is the gift going? In Spanish this sentence would be: María dio un regalo a Juan. Juan Juan
Indirect Object Pronouns 1 st person Singular me Plural nos 2 nd person te os 3 rd person le les
Frases de clarificación: 1 st person Singular Me = a mí Plural Nos= a nosotros 2 nd person Te = a tí Os= a vosotros 3 rd person a él a ella Le = a Ud. (a Juan) (a Lola) a ellos a ellas Les = a ustedes (a Juan y Lola)
Direct Object Pronouns 1 st person Singular me Plural nos 2 nd person te os 3 rd person lo la los las
Subject Pronoun yo tú él ella usted Pronouns Direct Object Pronoun Indirect Object Pronoun Possessive Adjectives I me me my you (familiar) - you (familiar) - you (familiar) - your he - she - you (formal) - nosotros him - her - la you (for) - him her - le you (for) his her - su(s) your we - us - us - our you (familiar pl) vosotros you os you os your vuestro (a)/(s) ellos (as) ustedes they - you (formal pl) - me lo te lo/a nos los/as los/as them - you - me nos les te them - you mi(s) tu(s) nuestro(a/s su(s) their
Putting it together Maria dio un regalo a Juan. Maria gives a gift to Juan. Maria dio un regalo a Juan. (IO) Maria le dio un regalo. (note that the pronoun moves before the verb) Maria gave him a gift. Maria dio un regalo(lo) a Juan. (DO) Maria lo dio a Juan. (note that the pronoun moves before the verb) Maria gives it to Juan.
Things to remember Both the DOPNs and IDOPNs come before the verb. María le dio un regalo a Juan(le). Me, te, and nos are the same for both sets of object pronouns. The verb matches the subject NOT the objects.
