1 Dr. Sue Shook Elementary 2 nd Grade 1 st Nine Weeks Performance Checklist Dear Parents, Welcome to our school year! Below you will find the overview of the curriculum that all 2 nd grade students will receive during the first 9 week instruction. Students will receive a grade based on a scale of 100. An average of 70 or higher shall be considered a passing grade. The grading also applies to the three projects listed. Essential Questions: How do the choices I make affect myself and others? Language Arts: Focus Poem, Fantasy/ Fiction / Folktales/ Realistic Fiction Author Study: Kevin Henkes Phonological Awareness and Spelling Word study (prefixes/ suffixes) Monitor Comprehension using background knowledge and context clues Retell and write stories (Beginning, Middle, End) Write to record ideas, reflections and connections Write personal narrative and expository (informational) text using the writing process Apply the correct use of Capitalization and punctuation (in compositions) Fluency Goal: 60 Math: Recall and apply addition and subtraction facts to 20 Use patterns/ relationships to remember basic addition and subtraction (fact family) Use concrete models of 100 s, 10 s and 1 s (0-1200) Use place value to read, write, and describe whole numbers Apply mathematical process standards to develop and use strategies and methods for whole number computations in order to solve addition and subtraction problems Explain and record observations using objects, words, pictures, numbers, and technology Determine the value of coins up to one dollar Use whole numbers to locate and name points on a number line Read and write times shown on analog and digital clocks using 5 minute intervals Use tools such as real objects, manipulatives, and technology to solve problems Apply mathematical process standards to understand/represent and compare whole numbers. They will understand the relative position and magnitude of whole numbers and relationship to place value-greater than, less than The students is expected to name the whole number that corresponds to a specific point on a number line Calculate how money saved can accumulate into a larger amount over time

2 Apply mathematical process standards to select and use units to describe length, area, and time Determine even odd numbers up to 40 Problem solving models that incorporates analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, justifying a solution, and evaluating the problem solving process and the reasonableness of the solution Apply financial resources effectively for life-time financial security Science: Identify and Describe Safe practices (Safety Rules) Identify and use Science Tools Scientific Process Investigate Properties of matter and patterns Investigate Force, Motion and Energy Social Studies The Pledge of Allegiance to the United States and Texas Flag Patriotic songs Celebrate Culture in Local Communities Thinking like a Geographer in Local Communities Health: Problem Solving Skills Safety Communication Skills to Express Needs /Wants and Make Friends Identify Appropriate Adults to ask for help Goal Setting Projects: U.S. Landmarks and U.S. Symbols brochures (Technology) All about me cultural project (Take Home Project) More information will be sent home at a later date Please cut here--- and -----return bottom part Dr. Sue Shook Elementary 2 nd Grade 1 st Nine Weeks Performance Checklist I have read the performance checklist and understand the requirements for my child. 4 Seleccionar y desarrollar un plan o estrategia de resolución de problemas (un dibujo, buscar patrones) Explicar y anotar observaciones utilizando objetos, palabras, imágenes, números y tecnología Se espera del estudiante que identifique números enteros en la recta numérica. Calcular como el dinero se puede ahorrar y acumular en grandes cantidades a través del tiempo.
