2 Good Shepherd Catholic Church and School January 13, 2013 The Baptism of the Lord The Baptism of the Lord Is 42:1-4, 6-7 or Is 40:1-5, 9-11; Ps 29; Acts 10:34-38 or Ti 2:11-14, 3:4-7;Lk 3:15-16, Stewardship Thought for the Week Jesus, whom God called my beloved Son, is also the servant of whom Isaiah speaks in the first reading. We who are baptized in Christ must follow His example and use our time and resources in the service of God and neighbor. THANK YOU Our Lord was smiling down on our Parish on the morning of December 22 while our St. Vincent de Paul members were giving toys to our needy children. You made so many of our children happy and their parents as well. Each child picked out four (4) new toys for themselves. It was a beautiful sight! So many happy faces and so many hugs from the children. Our many thanks to each person that brought in toys. We are proud to be a part of St. Vincent de Paul Society and part of Good Shepherd Parish. Baptism suggests very eloquently the global meaning of the Christmas celebrations in which the theme of becoming God's children, thanks to the Only-Begotten Son of God taking on our humanity, is a key element. He became man so that we might become children of God. God was born so that we might be reborn. These concepts continually recur in the liturgical texts of Christmas and constitute an exciting motive for reflection and hope. Let us think of what St Paul wrote to the Galatians: God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons (Gal 4: 4); or again, St John in the Prologue to his Gospel: To all who received him,... he gave power to become children of God (Jn 1: 12). This wonderful mystery which is our second birth: the birth of a human being from on high, from God (cf. Jn 3: 1-8) is brought about by and recapitulated in the sacramental sign of Baptism. With this sacrament the person truly becomes a son, a son [or daughter] of God. From that moment the purpose of his existence consists in freely and consciously achieving what was and is the human being's destination. Become what you are is the fundamental educational principle of the human being redeemed by grace. This principle has many analogies with human growth in which the parents' relationship with their children passes through separation and crises, from total dependence to their awareness of being children, grateful for the gift of life received and maturity and the ability to give life. Generated from Baptism to new life, the Christian too begins his journey of growth in faith that will lead him to invoking God consciously as Abba,- Father, to addressing him with gratitude and to living the joy of being his child. During Mass you will receive information and a pledge card to make your sacrificial pledge. If you have not already responded to Archbishop Wenski s letter received by mail, please take time this week to consider the pledge you will wish to make, a pledge that gives witness to your gratitude for God s blessings in your life. This year, we celebrate and share our faith a faith that gives purpose and direction to our lives a faith that calls upon us to help those in need. Because of you, we continue to help those in need through the life-changing ministries and programs supported by the ABCD. We do this in so many ways through Catholic Charities, Religious Education Programs, Lay Ministry; we do this through our support of our seminarians and priests, through Radio Paz and The Florida Catholic, through our support of Respect Life, and in many more countless ways. It allows us to make a difference together as an Archdiocese what a single parish could not fully accomplish. We ask for your continued support by making a sacrificial pledge and join together to be One in Faith, One in Hope and One in Charity.

3 13 de Enero de 2013 El Bautismo del Señor Good Shepherd Catholic Church and School El Bautismo del Señor Is 42:1-4, 6-7 or Is 40:1-5, 9-11; Ps 29; Acts 10:34-38 or Ti 2:11-14, 3:4-7;Lk 3:15-16, El Bautismo expresa muy bien el sentido global de las festividades navideñas, en las que el tema de llegar a ser hijos de Dios gracias a la venida del Hijo unigénito en nuestra humanidad constituye un elemento dominante. Él se hizo hombre para que nosotros podamos llegar a ser hijos de Dios. Dios nació para que nosotros podamos renacer. Estos conceptos aparecen continuamente en los textos litúrgicos navideños y constituyen un motivo entusiasmante de reflexión y esperanza. Pensemos en lo que escribe san Pablo a los Gálatas: Envió Dios a su Hijo, nacido de mujer, nacido bajo la ley, para rescatar a los que se hallaban bajo la ley, y para que recibiéramos la filiación adoptiva (Ga 4, 4-5); o en lo que dice san Juan en el Prólogo de su Evangelio: A todos los que la recibieron les dio poder de hacerse hijos de Dios (Jn 1, 12). Este estupendo misterio, que constituye nuestro segundo nacimiento el renacimiento de un ser humano de lo alto, de Dios (cf. Jn 3, 1-8) se realiza y se resume en el signo sacramental del Bautismo. Con este sacramento el hombre se convierte realmente en hijo, en hijo de Dios. Desde ese momento el fin de su existencia consiste en alcanzar de manera libre y consciente aquello que desde el inicio era y es el destino del hombre. Conviértete en lo que eres, constituye el principio educativo básico de la persona humana redimida por la gracia. Este principio tiene muchas analogías con el crecimiento humano, en el que la relación de los padres con los hijos pasa, a través de alejamientos y crisis, de la dependencia total a la conciencia de ser hijo, al agradecimiento por el don de la vida recibida, y a la madurez y la capacidad de dar la vida. Engendrado por el Bautismo a una nueva vida, también el cristiano comienza su camino de crecimiento en la fe que lo llevará a invocar conscientemente a Dios como Abbá - Padre, a dirigirse a él con gratitud y a vivir la alegría de ser su hijo. Gracias a ustedes, seguimos ayudando a los necesitados por medio de los ministerios y programas que son apoyados por el ABCD. Hacemos esto de varias maneras: por medio de Caridades Católicas, de Educación Religiosa, de Ministerios Laicos; lo hacemos a través de nuestro apoyo a nuestros seminaristas y sacerdotes, a través de Radio Paz y The Florida Catholic, a través de nuestro apoyo a Respeto a la Vida, y en muchas otras maneras. Esto nos permite obrar unidos como Arquidiócesis para dejar una huella transformadora, algo que una parroquia sola no podría lograr plenamente. Les pedimos que nos den su apoyo una vez más, haciendo una promesa de sacrificio y obrando Unidos en la Fe, Unidos en la Esperanza, Unidos en la Caridad. Pensamiento de Mayordomía de la Semana Jesús a quien Dios llamó Mi Hijo amado, es también el Siervo de Dios de quien Isaías habla en la primera lectura. Nosotros los bautizados en Cristo debemos seguir Su ejemplo también y usar nuestro tiempo y recursos al servicio de Dios y de nuestro prójimo. MUCHAS GRACIAS Nuestro Señor sonreía sobre nuestra parroquia en la mañana del 22 de diciembre, mientras nuestros miembros de San Vicente de Paúl fueron dando juguetes a los niños necesitados. Ustedes hicieron felices a muchos de nuestros niños y a sus padres también. Cada niño escogió 4 cuatro juguetes nuevos para sí mismo. Fue un espectáculo hermoso! Tantas caras felices y tantos abrazos de los niños. Nuestra gratitud a cada persona que trajo juguetes. Estamos orgullosos de ser parte de la sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl y de ser parte de la parroquia de Good Shepherd.
