PASTORS CORNER In a large parish like St. Anthony s, many volunteers are needed to make things run well. I am constantly impressed how so many parishioners step forward sharing their time, talent and treasure on a regular basis. One such volunteer is Violeta Tagle, who was recently reappointed by Bishop Stephen Blaire to a term of three years to the Diocesan Pastoral Council. Along with other lay leaders, Violeta advises the Bishop about how to respond to current and emerging pastoral needs in the Diocese of Stockton. Violeta also serves on our Parish Finance Council. She is part of a team that advises the Pastor about financial issues facing our parish and St. Anthony s School. Her expertise as a C.P.A. has made her especially valuable in this regard. The parish is currently in need of others with financial experience to serve in different capacities. If you have experience in banking, retail management, financial consulting or any related field, I would like to talk to you. The time commitment would only be a few hours. We would work around your schedule. Please contact me at your convenience if you can assist the parish in this way. Faithfully, Fr. Respect Life "That special power of loving that belongs to a woman is seen most clearly when she becomes a mother. Motherhood is the gift of God to women. So anything that destroys God's gift of motherhood destroys His most precious gift to women the ability to love as a woman." ~ Mother Theresa s Letter to the Fourth World Conference on Women, 1995 The Blessed Mother The Blessed Mother is looking for a home to visit. The Legion of Mary will leave the statue of the Blessed Mother in your home for a couple of weeks and say the Rosary with you and your family. Her visit will give you many graces and blessings. If you are interested in inviting Mother Mary, please call Esmeralda at (209) 629-8995. Lost and Found Are you missing keys, glasses, or scarves? Shepherds Field Olive Wood Handcrafts August 1 & 2 A group from the Holy Land (Bethlehem & Jerusalem) will be selling religious articles after mass to support the Catholic Christian minorities in Bethlehem. As a tradition, many of the Catholic families in the Holy Land work in small workshops to produce religious articles from olive wood. These articles represent the Christian art of the Holy Land. In the past, they used to sell their artwork to pilgrims who visit the Holy Land. However, these days they are facing an economic hardship as very few tourists visit the Holy Land due to security issues. Many of the Catholic families immigrated and left the Holy Land. The percentage of Christians in the Holy Land has dropped to less than 2%. Therefore, if this hardship continues as it is now, we believe that in a few years, there will be no Catholics in Bethlehem or Jerusalem. The struggle to preserve the Catholic identity of the birthplace of our savior; Jesus Christ is a serious concern for Catholics around the world. Sales will be used to help and support the Catholics in the Holy Land and to encourage them not to immigrate.

It is built around the most potent biblical numbers: one, three, and seven. The core of it is the word one expressed seven times. Three of these describe the church: one body, one Spirit, one hope; the next three are the foundations of the church: one Lord [Jesus], one faith, one baptism. All of these are bound up together in the one Father of all. While we might feel daunted by the prospect of duplicating the wonders worked by Elisha and Jesus in the feeding of multitudes, Ephesians gives us a more realistic way to live and feed others as the church: by living in humility and gentleness, by acting with patience, bearing with each other in love, and always seeking and striving to preserve unity through peace. Who among us cannot increase the way we feed the church and the world by living this way? We are always called upon to feed the world in the literal sense; but our mission as church tells us that others are also fed by the way we live and act each moment of each day.
