3 What is Compulsory School Attendance? A child is required to attend school each school day for the entire period the program of instruction is provided (Section of the Texas Education Code). 3

29 Tips for parents to ensure a successful education Look at your child s report card every 9 weeks (elementary), every 6 weeks (secondary) Report cards are sent during these time frames Report cards show the student s grades, tardies and absences If you do not receive your child s report card contact their campus immediately Ask for help early if your child is not doing well in school, especially if they have difficulties reading Free tutoring is available at your child s school 29

Pida ayuda lo mas pronto posible si su hijo/a no esta haciendo bien en la escuela especialmente si tiene problemas para leer. 33 Parenting Wisely is an exciting program offered at the ECISD Community Outreach Center. Parenting Wisely is evidence-based and proven effective and takes only 3 hours to complete. Extensive research and clinical tests show that use of Parenting Wisely resulted in: Increased knowledge & use of good parenting skills A decrease in child behavior problems by as much as 30% Improved problem solving Reduced spousal violence & violence toward children Success of the program has earned it the ranking as a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Model Program and an Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Exemplary Program as well as many other honors and rankings.
