You change the verb like you usually do (ex. take off ar and then add the correct ending to match the subject pronoun) but you also need to include me, te, le, nos, os, les before the verb. The me, te, le, nos, os, les must match the subject pronoun! So let's break this down into 4 steps (using bañarse as an example) 1. Take off the "se" on the end of the verb (bañarse - se = bañar) 2. Take off the "ar", "er" or "ir" (bañar - ar = bañ) 3. Add the correct ending to match the subject pronoun. (Just like you did for regular verbs) [Yo baño] 4. Now add the correct reflexive pronoun (me, te, se, nos, os, se) in front of the changed verb. (Yo me baño = I bathe myself) lastimarse to hurt oneself Yo me lastimo Tú te lastimas Él, Ella, Usted (Ud.) se lastima Nosotros nos lastimamos Vosotros os lastimáis Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes (Uds.) se lastiman
9 caerse to fall (down) Yo me caigo Tú te caes Él, Ella, Usted (Ud.) se cae caerse (Past tense) Yo me caí Tú te caíste Él, Ella, Usted (Ud.) se cayó Nosotros nos caemos Vosotros os caéis Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes (Uds.) se caen Nosotros nos caímos Vosotros os caísteis Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes (Uds.) se cayeron ponerse (mal) to become sick Yo me pongo mal Nosotros nos ponemos mal Tú te pones mal Vosotros os ponéis mal Él, Ella se pone mal Usted (Ud.) se pone mal Ellos/Ellas se ponen mal Ustedes (Uds.) se ponen mal Los verbos reflexsivos Reflexive Verbs cepillarse llamarse quedarse lavarse sentarse* (e ie) ponerse la ropa / vestirse maquillarse mirarse dormirse* (o ue) ducharse estirarse peinarse bañarse levantarse quitarse la ropa afeitarse (m) / depilarse (f) pintarse las uñas acostarse* (o ue) despertarse* (e ie) *Verbs that have a stem change have the change in all forms except the nosotros & vosotros forms. **Put no before the pronoun me, te, se, nos, os, se to make it negative! Ex: No me cepillo los dientes antes de la escuela. = I didn t brush my teeth before school.
10 Los mandatos con favor de Commands with favor de The expression favor de followed by an infinitive verb (a verb that still has ar, er or ir ) is a very useful way to give a command. It is very polite and you can use favor de with a friend, an adult, or any group of people. Ex: Favor de volver pronto. = Please return soon. Favor de cepillarse los dientes = Please brush your teeth. Whenever a pronoun is used with the infinitive verb, the pronoun is attached to the end of it. Ex: Favor de ayudarme = Please help me. Favor de darme el libro. = Please give me the book. Cabeza, Hombros, Rodillas y Pies (Head, Shoulders, Knees and Feet) Cabeza, hombros, rodillas y pies Rodillas y pies Cabeza, hombros, rodillas y pies Rodillas y pies Y ojos, y orejas y boca y nariz Cabeza, hombros, rodillas y pies Rodillas y pies La expresión: Hace que If we want to ask how long something has been going on, (or how long someone has been feeling ill) we can use: Cuánto tiempo hace que + a present tense verb? Ex: Ex: Cuánto tiempo hace que estás enferma? Cuánto tiempo hace que María y Ana tienen la gripe? To tell how long something has been going on, we can use: Hace + time period + que + present tense verb. Hace una semana que estoy enferma. Hace dos días que María y Ana tienen la gripe No olvides! minutos minutes horas hours días days semanas weeks meses months años years
