1 Mr. Richard Barter, Principal Telephone: (310) Fax: (310) Website: INGLEWOOD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE The staff at Oak Street School continues to work hard to provide our students with a well-instructed quality program. We strive to improve the academic achievement and test scores of our students while providing them with a culturally enriched, nurturing, safe, learning environment. We encourage our parents and community to participate in a variety of school activities and welcome suggestions of how we can improve our school. I have thoroughly enjoyed my fourth year at Oak Street Elementary School. Respectful students, supportive parents, and knowledgeable teachers, can easily be found. The staff and I are looking forward to working with our sixth graders once again this school year. It will give our students another year to mature before entering the junior high setting. SCHOOL PROFILE Current Enrollment: 945 Oak Street School is located in west Inglewood, three miles northeast of Los Angeles International Airport, and serves over 100 K-6 students on a schedule. It is close to the 405 Freeway and directly under Los Angeles International Airport s flight path. These conditions contribute to noise and traffic, but the student population has and progress despite these factors. Parents are most involved at the primary level. The parent community attends programs and school-sponsored events. The economic levels vary from high poverty to working class. Many parents are products of the Inglewood Unified School District and are former Oak Street School students. Oak Street is very much a community school, with the vast majority of students residing in the area. Much of the parent population consists of monolingual Spanish speakers.
