1 Handouts section Hoy es el 9 de diciembre del 2016 GUÍA DE ESTUDIO Tú commands POSITIVE / AFFIRMATIVE Regular verbs Used when giving a command to a friend, somebody you are on first name basis with use the third form of the verb Examples: Walk faster! Camina más rápido! Drink more water! Bebe más agua! Irregular verbs there are 8 verbs who form the Imperative differently Hacer - Haz! Ir - Ve! Ser - Sé! Decir - Di! Salir - Sal! Venir - Ven! Tener - Ten! Poner - Pon! NEGATIVE To give a negative command, follow the steps: 1. Conjugate the verb to yo form 2. Drop the o 3. Add the opposite endings: -es for AR verbs -as for ER / IR verbs The same rule applies to all regular and irregular yo form verbs. (see your notes for the overview of all tú commands) Irregular Negative Commands Dar No des! Ser No seas! Ir No vayas! Estar No estés! Direct Object Pronouns Direct Object noun or pronoun that receives DOP replaces the object to avoid repetition the action of the verb John fed the dogs. Did John feed the dogs? Yes, he fed them. Spanish forms me / te / lo, la / nos / os/ los, las Placement One verb before the verb: Yo veo un carro. Yo lo veo. Two verbs either before the conjugated verb. Yo quiero ver a Juan. Yo lo quiero ver. after the infinitive(2nd verb) Yo quiero ver a Juan Yo quiero verlo. Regular and Irregular Imperfect It is a past tense that express an action that has been repeatedly done in the past Ej: My sister used to speak Spanish as a girl. Mi hermana hablaba español de niña. Irregular verbs ONLY 3 verbs -AR verbs SER =to be IR = to go VER= to see - aba - ábamos - abas - abais - aba - aban -ER / IR verbs - ía - íamos - ías - íais - ía - ían Yo era Yo iba Yo veía Tu eras Tu ibas Tu veías Él, ella, era Él, ella, iba Él, ella, veía Ns. éramos Ns. íbamos Ns. veíamos Vs. erais Vs. ibais Vs. veíais Ellos, ellas eran Ellos, ellas iban Ellos, ellas veían
2 I. Imperfecto Regular and Irregular Asnwer the questions in complete entences 1. Eras tú travieso/a de niño/a? 2. Iba Ana a la playa cuando era joven? 3. Molestabas tú a tu perro? 4. Se portaba bien tu hermano de niño? 5. Saltabais vs. a la cuerda de niños? Ana is telling you how she used to be as a child. Put the following paragraph into Spanish. My name is Ana. Generally I was a well mannered girl, but once in a while I used to fight with my older brother. He used to bother everybody when he was a child. He used to play with his electric trains and his turtle, named Jack. He did not allow me (me put in front of the verb) to play with his turtle. Our parents used to buy us ( nos put in front of the verb) a lot of toys, so were quite (bastante) spoiled. I used to collect everything: toys, teddy bears, dolls. We liked to go to the daycare center. We used to play baseball on the playground. In the weekends we used to go fishing with our grandpa and with my brother s best friend Pablo Mi nombre es Ana. Tú commands Using the vocabulary give simple directions:
4 1. Go straight for two blocks, then stop at the stop light, don t turn left, turn right. 2. From Eugenia, take line 3 and go toward Indios Verdes. Don t go toward Zapata. Get off in Guerrero, then take line B toward Morrelos. Don t stop in Garibaldi, stop in Tepito. Get out of the subway. Be careful! Supply the singular imperative commands. Study these at home by translating them both in English to Spanish and vice versa! 1. (hacer) la tarea en casa, no en la escuela! 2. (leer) los ejercicios en voz alta! 3. (Venir) a la escuela a tiempo! 4. ( Prestar) más atención cuando la profesora habla! 5. (Venir) lo más temprano posible! 6. (Cerrar) la puerta por favor!

(Tener) cuidado cuando montas en monopatín! 13. (Ser) más responsable! Translate the following sentences using the negative tú commands: 1 Don t be naughty! 2 Don t cut classes! (huir) 3 Don t be angry! 4 Don t come to class without books! 5 Don t place the phone on the desk! 6 Don t leave your siblings alone! 7 Don t bother your teachers! 8 Don t send messages during class! 9 Don t drive fast to school! 10 Don t make a mess! (desorden)
6 III. Direct Object Pronouns supply the DOP needed to replace the noun and rewrite the sentences in the space provided 1. Yo veo el libro sobre la mesa. 2. Ella necesita su mochila 3. El profesor pone sus anteojos en su cartera. 4. Los chicos practican el baloncesto. 5. Tú no quieres ver a Josué. 6. Yo veo a Sr. García en la calle. 7. También veo a su esposa. 8. Inés trae a su amiga a clase diariamente. 9. Pablo busca sus lentes por toda la parte. 10. Nosotros pasamos el día en las montañas. Translate into Spanish by replacing the DO with DOP, as in the model provided: 1 The doctor sent (Carlos and Juan) to the lab. El doctor los mando al laboratorio. 2 I called (Ana) yesterday afternoon. 3 She didn t want to write (the letter). 4 I see (Dolores) once in a while.
