1 SPA 101 SPA 130 Assessment chapter 2, La vida universitaria Assessment instruments The following assessment instruments will be administered at the end of Unit 2 (La vida universitaria) in a Beginning Spanish course (SPA 101/130). Both, the written and the oral part have been conceived as summative assessments that include contents taught since the beginning of the semester (unit 1 and 2). Main objectives of Unit 1 & 2: - Greet and introduce themselves to others - Give an request personal information - Talk about university life - Talk about routines and daily habits - Talk about free time - Understand and tell the differences between USA and Spain university system. - Write texts using basic cohesive devices. Main contents of Unite 1 & 2: Grammar- Verbo ser, me llamo, nacionalidades, edad, ir+a+lugar, verbos regulares en presente, artículos definidos e indefinidos, números cardinales. Vocabulary- los países, las clases y asignaturas, los edificios de la Universidad, el tiempo libre y los deportes. Pragmatics- tú y usted Culture- la vida universitaria en los EEUU vs. la vida universitaria en España
2 Assessment instruments Part 1- Written part: Responding an In this part, students are expected to read and answer an provided by the teacher in which they should talk about their own university campus, their daily routines and university life in the USA. Also, a guide/summary with the topics they should talk about will be given. El correo electrónico de Pilar a) Tu profesora de español acaba de recibir un de una amiga española. Léelo con atención: Hola Rosana, Cómo estás? Cómo va todo en tu nueva vida en los EEUU? Tengo que contarte algo. He recibido una beca para estudiar en los EEUU el año que viene... en HATTIESBURG! Voy a pasar un semestre en USM. No es increíble? Nunca he viajado a los EEUU. Tengo algunas preguntas sobre la Universidad, quizá puedas ayudarme: Qué facultades hay? Qué otros edificios hay en el campus? Qué estudias tú? Qué clases tienes? A qué hora son tus clases? Hay residencias en el campus? Qué haces después de clase? Me gusta jugar fútbol y baloncesto. Qué hacen los estudiantes los fines de semana? Crees que necesito un coche para moverme por la ciudad o puedo usar la bici? Estoy muy nerviosa porque creo que la Universidad en los EEUU es muy distinta a la Universidad en España. Tú que piensas? Gracias por tu ayuda. Espero tu respuesta. 3 - Habla de las facultades y edificios de USM - Habla de tu carrera, tus clases y tu horario. - Explica cuáles son las residencias de USM - Cuéntale qué hacen los estudiantes después de clase y el fin de semana Importante: No te olvides de saludar y despedirte. Recuerda usar las estructuras estudiadas en clase (ir+a+lugar, verbos regulares, etc.) y el vocabulario que ya conoces. Ten en cuenta las diferencias entre la universidad en los EEUU y en España. Part 2- Oral part: informal conversation Students are expected to maintain a conversation with a classmate. In pairs, they will talk about the topics listed by the teacher at the beginning of the exercise.
