Document A Yo no he sido La crisis ha disparado súbitamente el índice de culpabilidad de los otros y la autoexoneración de responsabilidad A. Sabiendo que está prohibido, un niño juega a la pelota en el salón y rompe un jarrón muy valioso. El padre, que desde su habitación oye el estruendo, se acerca presuroso al lugar de los hechos y pregunta a su hijo, que gime rodeado de su culpabilidad (los trozos esparcidos por el suelo): Qué ha pasado?. Contestación: Yo no he sido. Quién ha sido, pues?. La letanía: el hermano, el perro, el viento, ya estaba roto cuando él llegó o, incluso, se cayó solo. Todos menos él. Qué debe hacer el padre? Educar es introducir de la mano al niño en el principio de realidad, donde los actos tienen consecuencias, y aceptar sus excusas infantiles sólo contribuiría a malcriarlo y a hacerle creer que basta quererlo para que la realidad ceda a los deseos de su voluntad. B. En los últimos quince años el tenor de vida de los españoles se ha parecido mucho al del nuevo rico, pero sin su riqueza. El dinero barato y fácil, junto a un juego perverso de emulación inversa yo en todo igual o más que mi amigo, mi vecino, mi cuñado, mi compañero de trabajo, hizo aflorar nuestro grosero apetito de bienes consumibles, que reclama una satisfacción inmediata, sin tolerar demora. Y pedimos préstamos bancarios, que permiten una rápida gratificación y una devolución retardada. Al hacerlo, la ostentación nos hacía parecer más ricos a los ojos de los demás, pero en la realidad éramos más pobres porque nuestra deuda crecía. Aun así no permitimos que la realidad nos estropeara la fiesta. Compramos una vivienda familiar, más un apartamento en la playa; reformamos la cocina; nos encaprichamos de algún cuadro de pintura contemporánea; nos aficionamos al buen vino y a los gadgets tecnológicos; visitamos lejanos países y celebramos a lo grande, sin ahorrar gastos, la boda de nuestra hija. Un amigo me contaba que no hace mucho un sacerdote, durante una homilía de primera comunión, hubo de exhortar a los padres que lo escuchaban a que no solicitaran una ampliación de hipoteca para financiar el banquete... Ahora la crisis ha roto el jarrón en mil añicos y no podemos pagar todas las facturas ni devolver el dinero que un día nos adelantaron a condiciones pactadas. De quién es la culpa? De los políticos, de los bancos, de los mercados, de los fondos de inversión, qué sé yo. En todo caso, yo no he sido. Durante aquellos alegres años, pedimos a los alemanes que nos prestaran su ahorro para comprarnos los todoterrenos que fabricaban los alemanes. Hete aquí que ahora no tenemos dinero para devolver lo prestado. Malditos alemanes! D. Si algún día escribiera un libro titulado La vulgaridad explicada a mi hijo, empezaría con un análisis del yo no he sido y de la tendencia yonohesidista a la autoexoneración de responsabilidad, que supone la previa distinción entre deuda (la mía) y responsabilidad (la del otro que ha de responder por mí). Esa distinción existió en el Derecho romano antiguo. Un pater familias pedía algo en préstamo a otro y entregaba como garantía a su propio hijo. El deudor era ese primer pater, pero la responsabilidad de la deuda recaía en el rehén, el verdadero obligado, llamado así porque permanecía materialmente atado o ligado (obligatus) a merced del acreedor quien, si era satisfecho, liberaba al rehén (solutio), pero en caso contrario, tenía derecho a matarlo o a venderlo trans Tiberim como esclavo. La importancia de la histórica Lex Poetelia Papiria (326 antes de Cristo) es doble: por un lado, estableció que mientras los delitos penales pueden ser castigados con sanciones físicas o con restricciones a la libertad, de las deudas civiles, en cambio, sólo responde el patrimonio; y segundo y principal, unió para siempre en la misma cabeza las figuras del deudor y del responsable. En ese momento escribe el gran romanista Bonfante nace la obligación moderna. E. La crisis ha disparado súbitamente el índice de culpabilidad de los otros. En nuestras conversaciones privadas y en la opinión pública se repiten las palabras de menosprecio hacia nuestros políticos. Son tan gruesas que se diría que éstos merecen ser vendidos como esclavos trans Tiberim. Al llamarlos incompetentes y mediocres y al culpabilizarlos de nuestra frustración nos reconciliamos con nosotros mismos y sentimos nuestra superioridad moral. Ahora bien, nada nos autoriza a pensar que los políticos sean una raza aparte, una cepa genética nueva traída por un meteorito desde Urano: son como los demás, vienen de la ciudadanía y vuelven a ella. No voy a ensayar ahora una desesperada apología de los políticos y desde luego muchos banqueros y financieros merecen pasear por la plaza pública con grandes orejas de burro. Que hay sobradísimos motivos de indignación, nadie lo duda; que escandaliza ver a tanta gente sufrir injustamente, tampoco. Pero la distinguida ciudadanía, no tiene nada que reprocharse? Nada que reflexionar sobre ese tren de vida dispendioso, pródigo, gárrulo, autocomplaciente, imprudente, antiestético exhibido largos años? Es todo, absolutamente todo, culpa del otro? F. El jarrón roto de la crisis está promoviendo reformas de las instituciones políticas, financieras, educativas. Bienvenidas sean, pues conocemos la inmensa influencia social de un marco institucional y regulatorio favorable. Pero cuando parte de la crisis obedece a la generalización de hábitos torpes y vulgares que convierten al ciudadano crítico en consumidor ávido y uno que en lugar de gastar su propio ahorro ganado con esfuerzo y tiempo pide prestado alegremente el de los demás, cabe preguntarse si no estaremos reformando las instituciones para que el ciudadano no tenga que reformarse a sí mismo y, como el niño de la pelota, pueda seguir culpando al perro o al viento de sus errores. Si así fuera, no quedaría jarrón por romper. G. En el Antiguo Régimen se decía nobleza obliga. Pensando en la burguesía de los dos últimos siglos, un constitucionalista escribió: La propiedad obliga. Dile si son VERDADEROS o FALSOS. Si la frase es FALSA extrae del texto la versión correcta y anótala en tu cuaderno de respuestas. (9 points) [Reading Competence: 9 points] [Linguistic Competence: 0 points] a. Gomá Lanzón piensa que es importante que los padres preserven la inocencia en sus hijos y que ellos como padres asuman las consecuencias de los actos de sus hijos. b. A pesar de que los préstamos bancarios nos hacían cada día más pobres, los españoles continuabamos con ese estado de opulencia e invertimos el dinero en objetos de lujo que no nos podíamos permitir. c. Una de las anécdotas del texto cuenta que un sacerdote sugirió a los padres, en una ceremonia de primera comunión, que ampliaran la hipoteca para hacer frente a los gastos de la fiesta. d. Según el artículo ahora los españoles maldicen a los alemanes porque éstos les exigen que les devuelvan el dinero que les prestaron para comprarse sus coches. e. El autor defiende a los políticos y a algunos banqueros y lo justifica diciendo que ellos solo cumplían con su deber y se escandaliza de ver que hay tanta gente que dice estar sufriendo por culpa de éstos, cuando realmente la culpa es suya y no quieren asumir sus responsabilidades. Task 4 Un amigo que viaja contigo y que sabe menos español que tú, te pregunta qué significan ciertas expresiones que se utilizan en el texto del documento A. Escribe en tu cuaderno en pocas frases y usando tus propias palabras, una explicación de qué significan y a qué se refieren en el contexto del artículo. (19.5 points) [Reading Competence: 14 points] [Linguistic Competence: 5.5 points] Estimado No estoy de acuerdo con la opinión de Javier Gomá, porque pienso que si, por una parte hubiéramos tenido que actuar de manera más responsable, pero al final esta conducta individual no tiene relevancia en el contexto del sistema bancario internacional. Las transacciones monetarias están tan controladas herméticamente por los bancos y gobiernos, que los hábitos dispendiosos individuales no tienen mucha importancia. Estás de acuerdo al respecto? Task 6 Estos dos temas aparecen en los periódicos españoles de manera regular, después de pensarlo un poco decides escribir tú propio artículo para publicar en una revista en la que colaboras. Escribe en tu cuadernillo de respuestas unas 400 PALABRAS sobre UNO de los temas siguientes. (31 points) [Content: 8 points] [Linguistic Competence: 23 points] a. Cada palo que aguante su vela. Hemos vivido y vivimos en un mundo ficticio confundiendo realidad y fantasía, propia de una mente infantil, y así hemos ido, entre todos forjando la dura crisis que hoy padecemos. Cada palo que aguante su vela, es decir, que cada uno asuma sus responsabilidades y, por supuesto, las consecuencias de sus actos. Crees que nuestra sociedad no produce adultos responsables? Es la culpa del sistema o de la educación recibida en el hogar? Ocurre lo mismo en tu país de origen? Cómo has vivido tu esta crisis? o bien b. La forma más alta, más lógica, más pura y fuerte de la pintura, es el mural. Es también la forma más desinteresada, ya que no puede ser convertida en objeto de puro lucro personal, no puede ser escondida para beneficio de unos cuantos privilegiados, es para el pueblo, es para todos.
