1 COURSE SYLLABUS CODE: SUBJECT: Asignatura Obligatoria de inglés (Odontología)- nivel meta A2 + English in Action COURSE DESCRIPTION: Esta asignatura es la asignatura obligatoria de inglés. Una parte de la asignatura se basa en la adquisición de las competencias marcadas por el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (MCERL) para el nivel A2. La otra parte de la asignatura será la participación satisfactoria en 25 horas de actividades en English in Action. CREDITS: 6 RELEVANCE WITHIN CURRICULUM: La asignatura de inglés preparará el alumno para cursar las asignaturas obligatorias impartidas en inglés y desarrollar su carrera profesional en un ámbito internacional. The way we are Requisito 1- Nivel Meta 1. Use manner adverbs and adjectives to talk about people s behaviour and personality. 2. Use adverbs like extremely to make adjectives and adverbs stronger. 3. Add prefixes to adjectives to make opposites. 4. Use always with a continuous verb to describe individual habits. 5. Use at least to point out the positive side of a situation. Unit 2. Experiences 1. Use the present perfect to talk about your secret dreams and discuss experiences you have and haven t had. 2. Ask and answer questions beginning with Have you ever? 3. Use the simple past to give specific answers to questions in the present perfect. 4. Keep a conversation going and use response questions like Do you?, Did you? or Have you? to show interest. Unit 3. Use short responses with really and sure to show you are a supportive listener. Unit 4. Family life 1. Talk about family, relatives, and childhood. 2. Use the verbs to let, make, help, have, get, want, ask, and tell to talk about rules and discipline. 3. Use used to and would to talk about your memories of growing up. 4. Give opinions with expressions like It seems like and If you ask me, 5. Use expressions like exactly, definitely, and absolutely to agree. Unit 5. Food choices 1. Describe your eating habits, talk about healthy eating and discuss different ways to cook and prepare food. 2. Use quantifiers like a little, a few, very little and very few, too, too much, too many, and enough. 3. Respond to suggestions by letting the other person decide. 4. Refuse offers politely with expressions like No, thanks. I m fine. Unit 6. Managing life 1. Talk about the future: plans, facts, predictions, and schedules, offer advice and solutions to problems and discuss phone habits. 2. Use the future with will, going to, the present continuous, and the simple present. 3. Use had better, ought to, and might want to to say what s advisable. Use have got to and going to have to to say what s necessary. Use would rather to say what s preferable. 4. Use expressions with make and do. 5. End phone conversations and use informal expressions like I d better go, and See you later to say good-bye. Unit 7. Relationships 1. Talk about friendships, dating, and other relationships. 2. Make sentences with subject and object relative clauses. 3. Use phrasal verbs like grow up, get along, and break up. 4. Soften comments with expressions like I think, probably, a kind of, and in a way. 5. Use though to give a contrasting idea. Unit 8. What if? 1. Talk about wishes for the present or future using wish + past form of verb. 2. Talk about imaginary situations or events in the present and future. 3. Discuss how to deal with everyday dilemmas. 4. Ask someone for a favour politely and use All right and OK to move a conversation to a new topic and to agree to requests. Unit 11. Impressions 1. Speculate about people and situations and talk about impressions, feelings and reactions. 2. Show you understand another person s feelings or situation. 3. Use the modal verbs must, may, might, can t or could to speculate. 4. Use adjectives ending in ing and ed like boring and bored. 5. Use You see to explain a situation and I see to show you understand. Unit 12. In the news 1. Talk about events in the news and about extreme weather and natural disasters. 2. Use the simple past passive in news stories. 3. Use the simple past passive with by + agent and use adverbs with the passive. 4. Introduce news with expressions like Did you hear (about)?, Guess what?, and You know what? 5. Use expressions like The thing is to introduce issues. Requisito 2- English in Action Actividades para usar el inglés en varias situaciones. La Asistencia semanal y la participación activa serán obligatorias. Se recomienda empezar con 2 clases diferentes de hora y media cada una desde la primera semana y luego una clase por semana hasta cumplir las 25 horas. Se podrá elegir horario con flexibilidad. PRACTICE: LEARNING ACTIVITIES: La asignatura sigue un formato de Blended Learning, que combina clases presenciales con trabajo online. El alumno cursará 4 horas presenciales (3 de clase + 1 de tutorías) por semana, y debería dedicar aproximadamente 4-6 horas en las tareas online. Tanto las actividades online como las presenciales reforzarán las habilidades de comprensión y expresión oral y escrita. ASSESSMENT: Requisito 1- Nivel Meta Division of Coursework Assessment 20% Daily Active Participation In class, forums, blogs, group work 20% Multimedia Assignments Cambridge Touchstone Online material 35% Graded work Competence-based assessment 25% Examinations Knowledge-based assessment La nota final del nivel A2 contará como 90% de la nota final de la asignatura.

5 Requisito 2- English in Action El criterio de evaluación para English in Action Participación activa en 25 horas de actividades. La nota final de English in Action contará como 10% de la nota final de la asignatura. *Convocatoria Extraordinaria* Los alumnos que no hayan superado con éxito las partes arriba descritas tendrán la opción de una evaluación alternativa en convocatoria extraordinaria que combine los mismos criterios de evaluación. Las convocatorias extraordinarias corresponden a las asignaturas de las titulaciones. Por lo tanto, los distintos cursos de niveles de inglés no se pueden aprobar en convocatoria extraordinaria al finalizar cada trimestre. La asignatura de inglés es anual, por lo que sólo hay una convocatoria extraordinaria en julio. La parte correspondiente a English in Action se basará en un proyecto de investigación sobre algunos temas interculturales vistos en la asignatura y la exposición del mismo. El alumno se pondrá en contacto con el profesor, o en su defecto con Language.center@uem.es para fijar los temas de investigación y coordinar los plazos de entrega del proyecto.
