Páginas interesantes e importantes: Diccionario de la Real Academia de la Lengua Española (versión digital): Centro Virtual Cervantes: Periódicos en formato digital Course Description and Objectives: Second semester for Advanced Grammar, Culture and Composition. This course emphasizes advanced grammar (including distinctions of tense, aspect and mood; reflexive and passive usage; and pronoun selection). Attention is paid to Spanish/English contrasts and there will be an important part of this course dedicated to Creative Writing as well as to the art of Translation. Grammar skills are developed in conversation and in reading and writing. Students are also introduced 1
2 to linguistic concepts that will help them make their own judgments about grammar and pronunciation. The cultural aspect of this course will be covered by the reading of several writings by authors from different countries where Spanish is the native language. Program/Departmental Objectives that apply to this course: By the end of the Spanish Program, students will be able to show progress in the following areas: 1. Oral proficiency: Students will be able to communicate at the Intermediate High level in accordance with the ACTFL guidelines for Speaking Writing proficiency: Students will be able to express themselves at the Advanced Mid level in accordance with the ACTL guidelines for Writing Cultural Awareness: Students will be able to gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures in accordance with the Standards for Foreign Languages Learning. Examen Final (1) 10% GRADES: Your final grade for this course will be determined on a percent of the total points possible and in accordance with the following descriptions: No extra credit will be given. A: Excellent mastery of the subject matter. The "A" student completes all course requirements on time with precision and insight. He shows exceptional skill in manipulation of concepts targeted in the course. He contributes to a stimulating classroom environment by not missing class, by participating in class discussions and by interacting with other students. An "A" student's enthusiasm leads him to discover new concepts or to acquire new skills on his/her own. B: Good mastery of the subject matter. This student completes all assignments on time with precision and insight. He attends class regularly and participates in discussions. All graded work shows good mastery of the material. C: Satisfactory mastery of subject. This student performs beyond minimum course expectations and demonstrates moderate understanding of the material. 2
3 D: Borderline understanding of subject. This student scarcely meets minimum course expectations. The following scale will be used to determine the final grade, but in accordance with the preceding explanation, I will reserve the right to lower a student s grade for lack of positive classroom participation = A = B = D = A = C = D = B = C = D = B = C = F The following items will be used to determine your final grade: a. Participación y Asistencia: Spanish 3070 se reúne 2 veces por semana con clases de una duración de una hora y veinte minutos cada una. La mayor parte del tiempo de clase se dedicará a la explicación, práctica y corrección de ejercicios de gramática.la participación en esta clase es importantísima y supone más que la mera asistencia. El estudiante debe venir preparado a clase todos los días. A lo largo del curso puede haber alguna prueba sorpresa sobre los puntos gramaticales vistos en clase con anterioridad. La asistencia a clase es obligatoria. Más de dos (2) faltas justificadas o injustificadas supone una reducción de la nota final. A partir de la tercera falta injustificada, se reducirá un punto de porcentaje de la nota final por cada una de ellas. Cada estudiante tiene la responsabilidad de cubrir el material asignado en caso de ausencia justificada o injustificada. Si tienes una falta justificada, por favor, preséntala a la profesora con la adecuada documentación. IMPORTANTE: Con 8 ausencias (2 justificadas o sin justificar + 6) o más, la nota será automáticamente una F en este curso. b. Quizzes (3): En esta clase haremos 3 pruebas o quizzes de gramática y/o traducción. La preparación para estos quizzes es primordial para conseguir una buena nota. Haremos repasos en clase y tareas en casa. c. Escritura Creativa (2) : Durante este curso, haremos en clase o en casa dos trabajos de Escritura Creativa. La extensión de estos trabajos serán indicados en la clase dependiendo del tema a escribir. El estudiante debe estar preparado para escribir al menos dos páginas en estos trabajos. La elección de los temas se discutirá en la clase dependiendo de los estudiantes. Ambos trabajos deben ser originales y no se permitirá bajo ningún concepto la copia ilegal de textos no escritos por cada estudiante. Estos ejercicios de Escritura Creativa tienen dos versiones: una preliminar y una final. 3
4 d. Traducciones (3): Vamos a hacer 3 ejercicios de Traducción con una dificultad ascendente (la primera es una práctica y mitad de valor). La traducción, al igual que el trabajo de escritura creativa tiene una versión preliminar y una versión final definitiva. La elección de los textos a traducir dependerá de la profesora y se permitirán varios días en clase para analizar y comprender lo mejor posible el texto antes de traducir. e. Presentación (2): Cada estudiante tendrá que presentar un tema al resto de la clase. El tema de la presentación será un acuerdo entre el estudiante y la profesora dependiendo de los intereses del estudiante y los consejos de su profesora. Las presentaciones pueden ser de un carácter gramatical, cultural o bien exponer las traducciones y la problemática que tuvieron cuando se realizaron. Examen final (1): Al final del curso el/la estudiante se examinará de la parte gramatical y escritura de este curso. Teachers at Dixie State College may discipline students proven guilty of academic dishonesty by: Giving a failing grade on the specific assignment where dishonesty occurred, Failing the student in the entire course, Immediately dismissing and removing the student from the course, and/or Referring the student to Student Affairs, a committee which may reprimand, place on probation, suspend, and/or expel the student Disruptive Behavior: Teachers at Dixie State College have the right to manage the classroom environment to ensure a good learning climate.
