2 2 You are advised to spend 45 minutes answering the questions in this booklet. QUESTION ONE: The Effects of Alcohol Read the article below about the effects of alcohol. Answer the questions that follow, in English, in the spaces provided. Your answers must be based on the information you read. You will be rewarded for providing: all the information requested detailed answers.

3 3 (a) According to the majority of scientific tests, how could moderate alcohol consumption affect the body? Give TWO facts. (1) (2) (b) (i) Do all experts agree with these findings? (ii) Give evidence to support your answer. (c) What are FOUR of the known effects of alcohol? (1) (2) (3) (4) (d) In what TWO ways does alcohol affect the central nervous system? (1) (2) (e) (i) How does alcohol affect attitude? (ii) What are the effects of this attitude change? Give TWO details. (1) (2)

4 4 (f) Explain why drinking even a small amount of alcohol is dangerous for driving. Give details. (g) Why are the effects of alcohol felt so quickly? (h) Explain how the molecular structure of alcohol influences the effects on the body. (i) If the molecular structure of alcohol was different, what effects would this produce?
