DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA MATERIA: El seminario presenta, analiza y propone modelos como el coaching ejercitado con mucho éxito en las empresas, escuelas y grupos deportivos y los conjuga con los estilos tradicionales. Leadership: The Art of Experience, this seminar is presented to serve as introduction to the subject of leadership. The program consists of 13 units and a final section on Basic and Advanced Leadership Skills. Authors Hughes, Ginnett, and Curphy, have drawn upon three different types of literature: empirical studies; interesting anecdotes, stories and findings. 3. OBJETIVO GENERAL: Propone aplicaciones y evaluaciones que favorecen el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico y competencias en el estudiante, las cuales podrá emplear tanto en la vida profesional como en la personal para manejar conflictos, negociar, delegar y definir el estilo de liderazgo apropiado en cada circunstancia. Especial énfasis se da al liderazgo de los grupos como empresas y organizaciones en general. GENERAL LEARNING GOAL: This seminar employs a unique three-pronged approach of theory, application, and skill development to create the most practical leadership training. It covers all of the traditional theory along with cutting-edge leadership topics. Applications develop

2 critical thinking skills about the concepts. Proven skill-building exercises foster leadership skills that can be used in professional and personal lives. This threepronged approach offers the greatest variety of learning material to meet each learner's unique needs. 4. SPECIFIC LEARNING GOALS: 1. To handle the step-by-step models and to demonstrate how day-to-day leadership functions. 2. To apply "Work Applications" concepts to their own work experiences. 3. To apply concept features and to identify the concept illustrated in a short example. 4. To engage in cases at the end of each chapter in role-play. 5. To practice every chapter in order to help students gain insight into their own leadership skills and aptitudes. 6. To develop leadership skills they can employ immediately. 5. Students will receive their textbook the very first day of class including key supplements like CD and web page for homework and projects. Estimated cost is $20, substantially lower than the market price. Student should read each chapter in advance, before classes and should prepare homework assignments for each chapter: reading, tests, internet exercises and case discussion. Cases will be solved in teams, where each member will assume the role of an executive specialized in a functional area like Finances, Marketing, Production, Human Resources, or General Management. Each team will present end results that their team might reached. Each class period will have three sections: lecture, critical thinking questions, and case discussion. As a final test, each student present a well know leader of his/her preference and will show how this leader practiced a leadership principle, method or strategy according to one of the topics that were studied during this semester. EVALUATIONS: Sections Reading for Comprehension, Linking Concepts to Practice and Case applications will count for ten points each. Final test will count for 20 points. 10 points will be assigned to total final results of the enterprise and 10 points for individual performance. GRADING SYSTEM: Every work will be evaluated according to presentation quality, clear thinking and communication, scientific contents and ability of student to propose or find creative solutions for each concrete problem. For late papers a 20% discount will be applied. For other regulations check college calendar and agenda.
