Age appropriate rules and consequences are clearly stated, effectively taught, implemented, and consistently reinforced by both staff and parents. 3 We come to school rested, with clean bodies and clothes, and with completed homework. We follow these rules and policies so teachers can teach and students can learn. 4 In the Classroom The classroom rules, consequences, and reward systems are established by each teacher and distributed to students the first week of school or within the first week of enrollment. Please review these standards of behavior, as they are an important part of El Toro s School-wide Discipline Plan. Before School Responsibilities Students may arrive no earlier than 7:30 am. (except for Safety Patrol members) Students must line up at their room number on the playground. There is no playing before school. The bell rings at 7:40 am for students to go to their classroom with their teacher. The pledge of allegiance begins at 7:45 am. Students must obey all school and traffic safety rules on the way to school. Cafeteria Responsibilities Responsabilidades De La Cafetería Enter the cafetería calmly. Stay in your seat and eat your own food. Chew your food carefully and with your mouth closed. Talk quietly and respectfully with people near you at your table. Raise your hand for permission to leave the table. Finish eating, clean up your area, and raise your hand for permission to throw your trash away and go to play. Camina y mantén la calma al entrar a la cafetería. 5 Play Time Responsibilities Responsabilidades Durante El Horario De Play only in play areas, not in bathrooms or hallways. Run only on the grass or in a game. Walk around a game. Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourselves. Use equipment properly in play areas, only. Stay only in the play areas. Drink water and use the bathroom during play time, not after the line-up bell. Students must have a pass to go help in another classroom. At the sound of the bell, stop all activity, and kneel to the ground. When the whistle blows, walk directly to your line up area. Restroom & Drinking Fountain Responsibilities Responsabilidades De Cuando Vas Al Baño O A Tomar Agua Use a quiet voice inside the bathroom. Use the bathrooms appropriately and leave promptly. Respect others' right to privacy in the bathroom. Place all paper in the proper containers. Stand behind the yellow lines to wait to drink water. Drink water for up to a count of one to ten. Treat school property with care and respect. Utiliza voz baja cuando estés en el baño. Utiliza el baño apropiadamente y no permanezcas ahí demasiado tiempo. 6 Assembly Responsibilities Responsabilidades Durante Las Asembleas Show courtesy to the person/group presenting. Sit or stand quietly during the presentation. Applaud politely to show your appreciation. Turn your attention to your teacher for directions when the program is over. Demuestra cortesía a las personas/grupo que está siendo presentado. Departure & After School Responsibilities Students are not to leave campus during school hours without office approval. Meet family and/or friends at the front of the school. Obey school and traffic-safety rules on the way home each day. Leave the school site within ten minutes of dismissal unless you attend an after school class. Students who attend an after school class must walk directly to their after school class at dismissal time. Appointments for students should be scheduled after 2:00 pm so students do not miss instruction. School Conduct It is our goal to teach children to behave appropriately so they can learn and teachers can teach. Students are taught to think about their behavior by asking themselves these three questions: "Am I being safe?" "Am I being respectful?" 7 Positive behaviors are rewarded in a variety of ways, including: recognition assemblies, certificates, and prizes. If a student violates any of the school or classroom rules, the following interventions will be implemented to help students to make a positive change in their behavior: Parent/staff meetings to review the expectations for appropriate behavior and to create a student support plan Reports from the teacher. For the safety and security of our students and staff, we require all visitors to check in at the Main Office and receive a Visitor's Badge. Students are not permitted to bring relatives or other peer guests to accompany them at school unless prior administrative permission has been granted. Classroom Visits Parents are welcome to visit classrooms to observe instruction. Parents should contact the Visitors on Campus (cont d) individual teacher to arrange the visit. Prior to the classroom visit, parents must sign in the office and receive a visitor s badge. Office hours are 7:30am to 4:30pm. Uninterrupted Instruction Daily instructional time must not be interrupted. Phone calls will not be transferred to classrooms, except in emergencies. Office staff will take messages and place them in staff members' boxes. Staff members must check for messages before school, during lunch, and after school. Family members must speak with teachers before or after school. Medical and other appointments should be made for after school hours or non-school days. 9 Attendance Policy Compulsory attendance laws require that parents send their children to school daily and on time. Excessive absences, including excused absences, adversely affect students' learning and grades. Any student with more than 10% absences, per days enrolled is considered to have irregular school attendance and will be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB). Parents must call the school office at (408) on the day of absence (you may leave a message with your child s name, grade, date(s) of absence; your relation to student; and reason for absence) or send a signed note with all of the required above information on the day immediately following an absence. State Education Code and Board Policy allow excused absences for the following reasons: 1. Illness 2. Quarantine directed by county or city health officer 3. Medical, dental, or optometric appointment (medical provider note required) 4. Funeral services for a member of the immediate family ( one day for funerals within California; three days for funerals outside of California Absences for reasons other than those excused absences listed above are considered Unexcused. Also, absences for more than three days for reasons that are unknown to school office staff are considered to be Unexcused. Extended Absence Other Than illness Parents must apply for Independent Studies in the school office for travel in excess of one school week. Parents must notify the school at least 2 weeks prior to the student's departure. Extended absences from school may affect a student's progress or grades Tardy Policy Students are to arrive before the bell rings every morning. Habitual and excessive tardies will be reviewed and may result in a disciplinary consequence, and/or a SARB referral. Leaving Campus Students may not leave school grounds without permission. If students need to leave school for an appointment, a responsible adult must sign out the student in the office. Upon return to school after an appointment, students must get a pass to class in the office. Enfermedad Crónica /Ausencia Prolongada Cuando hay viajes de por lo menos una semana escolar, los padres deberán de solicitar estudios independientes en la oficina escolar. Los padres deberán de notificar a la escuela con un mínimo de dos semanas de anticipación el viaje del estudiante. Las ausencias prolongadas pueden afectar las calificaciones y el aprendizaje del estudiante. Póliza De Tardanzas Los estudiantes deben de llegar diariamente a la escuela, antes de que suene la campana. Las tardanzas en exceso se van a estar monitoreando y podría resultar en que se mande al estudiante a "SARB". Saliendo de la escuela - Los estudiantes no pueden salir de la escuela sin permiso. Si los estudiantes tienen que abandonar la escuela para hacer una cita, un adulto responsable debe firmar la salida del estudiante en la oficina. Al regresar a la escuela después de una cita, los estudiantes deben obtener un pase a clase en la oficina. 9

10 Attendance Interventions Positive reinforcement will be provided to students with good attendance. This includes: certificates to individual students with perfect attendance, spirit stick awards, and recognition at school assemblies. When school attendance, tardiness, or truancy becomes a problem, students may fall behind in their studies. Attendance problems are addressed as follows: Conference to develop an incentive program to alter behavior. This program could involve a contract, rewards for improvement, or making up missed time. Parents will be notified of problems and provided an opportunity to review district and school attendance policies. If there is no significant improvement, parents will receive written notification of the child's attendance record and will be invited to school for a meeting or a home visit will be conducted by school personnel. Referral to preventative counseling groups for the specific attendance problems. Referral to community support agencies to help the family in correcting the attendance problems. Referral to the district School Attendance Review Board. Intervención De Asistencia Se preverán incentivos positivos a los estudiantes con buena asistencia. 11 Health Services Injury or illness at School A student who becomes ill or injured will be sent or taken to the Health Office where every effort will be made to see that he/she is comforted. Students should ask for a Health Office Pass only if they feel too ill to stay in class. Office personnel will contact the student's parent/ guardian if the student needs to go home or if medical attention is required. El personal de la oficina llamara a los padres o personas a cargo del estudiante si es que es necesario que vengan por el o si necesita atención médica. Students should not come to school if they have the following one or more of the following symptoms: Earache Headache Runny nose Persistent cough Sore throat Nausea/vomiting (students should not come to school if they have vomited during the night) Los estudiantes no deben venir a la escuela si tienen uno o más de los siguientes síntomas: Dolor de oído Dolor de cabeza Goteo nasal Tos persistente Dolor de garganta Náuseas / vómitos (estudiantes no deben venir a la escuela si han vomitado durante la noche) Fiebre de 100 grados o más durante las últimas 24 horas Erupción en la piel, a no ser diagnosticado como no contagiosa por un médico Rojo, crujiente, y / o los ojos de drenaje Los piojos Fever of 100degrees or more during the last 24 hours Skin rash, unless diagnosed as non-contagious by a doctor Red, crusty, and/or draining eyes Lice Homework Policy Póliza De Tareas Homework is assigned to help students practice and study what has been taught. Homework is to be regarded as an extension of the school day. Homework is given to improve, reinforce and review basic skills and to encourage the development of good study habits. Homework is assigned to students on a daily basis. The teacher will consider completed homework assignments when assigning grades on the report card. To assist students with their homework, parents should: 1. Provide a well-lit place to read and write, free from distractions and interruptions like TV's, radios, telephones, conversations, etc. 2. Check daily for homework assignments and establish a consistent schedule for completing homework, such as before play activities. Make sure that children begin homework early enough so they can get to bed on time. 3. Encourage and motivate your children to do 11 La tarea se le asigna a los estudiantes para ayudarlos a practicar y estudiar lo que se les enseño en clase. La tarea debe de ser considerada como una extensión del día escolar. Esta se le da al estudiante para mejorar, reforzar y repasar conocimientos básicos, así como para desarrollar promover buenos hábitos de estudio. La tarea se asigna diariamente. Como parte de las calificaciones de boletas, el maestro tomara en consideración todos los aspectos referentes a las tareas: puntualidad y que estén completas. Los padres deben de ayudar a los estudiantes con lo siguiente: 1. Provea un lugar con suficiente luz para leer y escribir, un lugar que no se preste a distracciones o interrupciones tales como la televisión, el radio, el teléfono, o donde se puedan escuchar conversaciones, etc. 2. Revise diariamente la tareas y proyectos que tenga su hijo(a). Establecer un horario consistente para la realización de la tarea, como por ejemplo antes de jugar. Asegurarse de que los niños/as comienzan su tarea lo suficientemente temprano como para irse a

Students unable to do an assignment must seek out help from the teacher for additional instruction immediately. Students who are absent should contact a STUDY BUDDY for the missed assignment. It is the student's responsibility to make-up all of the classroom assignments missed due to an absence Preparedness Students should come to school prepared to succeed. In addition to a positive attitude, they are required to come to school with completed homework. Students should come to school rested (about 10 hours of sleep each night) and with clean bodies and clothing. Students should bring healthy snacks and drinks to school. Students should not bring any non-school items that are not used for learning, such as toys, electronic devices, sports equipment, permanent markers, etc. These items will be confiscated by staff members. Students should not bring money or valuable items to school. The school is not responsible for the lost or stolen items. 4. Todos los estudiantes tendrán práctica diaria de tarea y lectura. Los estudiantes que no puedan hacer alguna tarea, deben de buscar ayuda del maestro para así obtener más explicación a cerca de la materia inmediatamente. Los estudiantes que faltaron deben de hablar con algún amigo para ponerse al corriente con los trabajo. Es la responsabilidad del estudiante de ponerse al corriente con las tareas no terminadas por haber faltado a la escuela. Hay Que Llegar Siempre Preparados Los estudiantes deben llegar a la escuela preparados para ser exitosos. Además de mantener una actitud positiva, se requiere llegar a la escuela con la tarea completa. Los estudiantes deben de llegar a la escuela bien descansados (aproximadamente 10 horas de sueño por noche), recién bañados y con ropa limpia. Los estudiantes deben de traer solo bocadillos y bebidas saludables a la escuela. Los estudiantes no deben traer artículos que no sean educativos, como: juguetes, aparatos y juegos electrónicos, artículos deportivos, plumones permanentes, etc. El personal docente confiscará los artículos arriba mencionados. Los estudiantes no deben de traer dinero u objetos de valor a la escuela. La escuela no es responsable por la pérdida o robo de ningún objeto. 12
