72 El trasplante hepático se realiza cada vez más en pacientes seleccionados con VIH en la mayoría de los países desarrollados, con excelentes resultados informados en pacientes con enfermedades hepáticas no relacionadas con el VHC. Por el contrario, la supervivencia en los receptores hepáticos coinfectados con el VHC / VIH es más pobre que en los pacientes monoinfectados con VHC, debido a la recurrencia más agresiva del VHC y la consecuente pérdida del injerto y la muerte. Los resultados de los estudios de cohortes estadounidenses, franceses y españoles mostraron una tasa de supervivencia de 5 años de sólo 50-55%.
